'Wheel Of Fortune' Contestant Has Fans Groaning With Wildly Off-The-Mark Guess

Wheel of Fortune
Sony Pictures Television

A 'Wheel of Fortune' puzzle only had a few letters left to be revealed when a contestant guessed 'The British ogre,' which was very incorrect.

For many of us, half the fun of watching the iconic game show Wheel of Fortuneis hurling invective at our televisions when contestants make guesses that make no sense.

A moment from the show that recently went viral on social media is a perfect example.

During a free-for-all round, where all three contestants had an opportunity to guess the almost-completed puzzle, a contestant named Gishma took a stab at solving the thing.

Her guess was... well, extremely incorrect on several levels.

The category was "Show Biz," and the most revealing letter of all three words in the puzzle were already showing. Gishma's response? "the British ogre," not the actual answer, which was "the critics agree."

Let's start with the most obvious question: What does the "the British ogre" even mean? Was that perhaps the working title of Shrek before they settled on Shrek? Perhaps Gishma has inside knowledge the rest of us don't?

Still, neither "British" nor "ogre" even fit the puzzle; the revealed letters were in the wrong order for the word "British," and the final word had five letters instead of the four in "ogre." Gishma had so many clues this was not the right answer!

Even Pat Sajak, who surely has had it with these kinds of on-air mishaps after announcing his impending retirement, seemed to struggle to conceal his frustration, replying simply "Uh, no."

And of course, social media immediately erupted over "the British ogre" as well.

Still, Gishma ultimately triumphed in the end. She took home $15,853 in cash and a cruise. So, ultimately, the joke's on all us British ogres groaning in the audience. Touché, Gishma, touché!
