The singer promised a 'special surprise' before welcoming the one and only Beyoncé to the stage—except it was just a trick.

Fans were in for the surprise of their lives when Usher revealed he was bringing Beyoncé on as a surprise guest at Dreamville Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday.

Or so they thought.

During his set, the Grammy winner announced to the crowd:

"I said I would have a special surprise for you tonight."
"Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, put your hands together for the one, the only, Beyoncé."

Needless to say, the audience absolutely lost it—if not for a just a moment.

Usher appeared to be searching and motioning for the "CUFF IT" singer to join him, but to the dismay of everyone in attendance, she never did.

The "Nice & Slow" singer returned to the mic to address the crowd, sadly announcing with a laugh:

"April Fools."

You can watch the moment—and hear the crowd deflate—below.

Viewers of the prank—and even some fans in attendance that heartbreaking day—commented on his cruel shenanigans.

Many agreed that while completely wrong, he got 'em.

In his defense, the R&B star did bring on City Girls to perform their song "Good Love" which features Usher.

...But now we're craving a little "Love in this Club."
