Upcoming Animated 'Scooby-Doo' Movie Reboot Casts Some A-Listers In Key Roles

The Mystery Inc. gang have a new animated movie on the way and the voice talent behind it is top notch.

Warner Bros. have announced the new Scooby-Doo movie has cast Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth), Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), and Tracy Morgan (The Last O.G.).

That is some quality acting for this film.

Scooby will be voiced by Frank Welker, a voice acting legend who was the original voice of Freddy, and has been voicing the cowardly canine for years. In addition, Welker has voiced many of your favorite cartoon characters for the last few decades.

Alongside Welker's Scooby, Forte will voice his best friend, Shaggy. Rodriguez has been announced to be voicing the brainy Velma. And Tracy Morgan is playing Captain Caveman.

…Captain Caveman?

Yes, Captain Caveman. This new animated theatrical release will see the meddling kids teaming up with other Hanna-Barbera characters to save the world from Dick Dastardly, the villain of Wacky Races.

It's an unconventional take, to say the least.

Not everyone is ecstatic about the casting announcement. Apparently, this was how Matthew Lillard found out about the new movie, and that he was being replaced.

Lillard played Shaggy in the live action movie from 2002, and has voiced the character in animation after the original voice actor, Casey Kasem, passed away in 2009.

Lillard has racked up up over 130 credits as Shaggy. To find out like this that he was replaced is a little disappointing.

The new Scooby-Doo movie is set for a May 2020 release. More casting announcements are sure to come, with voice actors for characters like Freddy and Daphne not having been announced just yet.

And we're sure the film will be rounding out the film with plenty of Hanna-Barbera characters to stop Dick Dastardly.
