For many of his devotees, part of Fox News host Tucker Carlson's charm is the way he smugly looks down his nose at everyone left of President Trump as some kind of broken-brained ignoramus.
How ironic, then, that Carlson seems not to know how Congress works.
At least, that's the impression he gave during a recent interview with former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, whom he introduced as a currently seated House Representative.
Worse still, Carlson said that Gabbard's term ends on January 20, the day Joe Biden is inaugurated as President.
Tucker's comments came as an on-the-fly correction while introducing Gabbard as a "former Congresswoman."
"We said former but we didn't mean it. Until Jan. 20, she still serves, and we're grateful for that."
Gabbard, notably, did not correct Carlson in any way, but simply smiled and thanked him.
Carlson's understanding of the basic functioning of Congress was woefully wrong, at least for someone of his profession and stature. on a couple different levels. Gabbard's term has indeed already ended. It concluded on January 3, the day her replacement, Hawaii Representative Kai Kahele, was seated along with all other Representatives and Senators elected in 2020.
Gabbard announced she would not be seeking reelection back in October 2019, in order to unsuccessfully run for the Democratic nomination for President.
On Twitter, many people couldn't help but roll their eyes at Carlson's ignorance.
Gabbard was on Carlson's show to talk about House Democrats' recent proposal to get rid of gender-specific terminology in Congressional business.
She has become something of a darling among right-wing media circles recently for the transphobic legislation she introduced in her final weeks in office that would result in a de facto ban on transgender girls and women from participating in any federally funded women's sports team.
