Community Rallies After GOP Cuts Funding For Pizza Parties They Think Are Turning Kids Trans
Dec 13, 2024
After the Ellensburg City Council in Washington voted to cut funding for weekly pizza parties for a school LGBTQ+ program over fears it was encouraging kids to become gay and trans—calling it “a target on minors"—the community quickly stepped up to donate more than enough funds.
Launched in 2023, the program was highlighted in the Ellensburg Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Commission’s year-end report and proposed 2025 budget, which advocated for its continuation. The Pizza Klatch attracted an average of 27 students weekly throughout 2024, offering a safe and supportive classroom environment for LGBTQ+ students and their allies, according to supporters.
But city council member Joshua Thompson nonetheless made the statement during a meeting while discussing funding for the DEI Commission. The debate centered on whether to continue supporting the weekly Pizza Klatch at the local high school, which costs $1,400 annually for pizza.
Thompson claimed the pizza party is encouraging high schoolers to adopt a gay lifestyle or explore transgender identities, describing it as "a target on minors." He was the sole vote in favor of his proposed ban on funding for the pizza program.
He added that high schoolers are “highly impressionable” and stressed that the city should not be spending taxpayer dollars “on what could and has separated kids from their parents.”
A second amendment, pitched as a compromise by councilmember Delano Palmer, sought to maintain funding but required parental consent for students attending the weekly lunchtime gathering; that proposal also failed.
Ultimately, the council voted 4-3 to approve the DEI Commission’s $10,000 annual budget request and to allow the pizza program to continue but without direct council funding.
The city of Ellensburg, WA, just defunded its Pizza Klatch program, which provided a safe space for LGBTQ to connect - because a councilman thought it encouraged kids to become transgender.

As a result, the $1,400 needed for the program had to come from private donations.
The meeting spurred an Ellensburg resident, Steve Verhey, to launch an online fundraiser, which successfully raised over $2,000 to keep the Pizza Klatch program alive.
Verhey remains optimistic, however, that the program won’t always have to rely on public donations for funding though he criticized the council's action in remarks to KNDO News:
"I'm a little bit annoyed at having to do the city council’s job for them. The city council’s job is to keep everyone who lives in Ellensburg safe and to give them the conditions they need to thrive.”
And while there is a happy ending here, the council has faced significant criticism for defunding the program in the first place.
Yakima Pride said the vote "to restrict funding for such programs raises serious concerns about the city's commitment to inclusivity and the well-being of its LGBTQ+ youth," adding that in defunding the program, "the City Council is sending a harmful message that the needs and experiences of LGBTQ+ youth are not valued."
The recent City Council decision to restrict funding for such programs raises serious concerns about the city's commitment to inclusivity and the well-being of its LGBTQ+ youth.
— Yakima Pride (@yakimapride.org) December 11, 2024 at 1:36 AM
By defunding these essential programs, the City Council is sending a harmful message that the needs and experiences of LGBTQ+ youth are not valued. We urge the City Council to reconsider its decision and prioritize the well-being of all Ellensburg residents.
— Yakima Pride (@yakimapride.org) December 11, 2024 at 1:36 AM
Others have also condemned the move.
Yes. The pizza is turning kids trans... Great job, Ellensburg City Council in the grand state of Washington. While you're at it, why not cut all food funding for children. You never know when the transing of the kids will strike, so might as well let them starve. /s

Don't come between kids, LGBTQ or otherwise, and their pizza.

Fox Host Drops Truth Bomb About Biden's Economy In Mic Drop Clip
Dec 13, 2024
Fox News host Jessica Tarlov eloquently broke down the economic legacy of President Joe Biden in just one minute on Fox, noting that while it will no doubt be "complicated," he "oversaw the best recovery" of the G7 countries, which include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan and the U.S.
Tarlov—perhaps the most prominent Democrat on the network—once again went against the grain, discrediting claims many of her co-hosts have made about the effectiveness of Biden's economic policies.
She said:
"The legacy of Joe Biden will be obviously complicated by how this ended and with [Vice President Kamala Harris] losing but he oversaw the best recovery in the G-7 by far and away. Inflation in this country is lower, unemployment in this country is lower, he expanded the number of people who got access to affordable healthcare, Medicaid expansion."
"We are producing more oil than at any other time in world history under Joe Biden. The stock market ... [President-elect Donald Trump] is trying to pretend it's because he's coming back [to the White House] and that's why everyone is so hyped about this."
"We've been hitting record after record after record under Joe Biden. In terms of the jobs [her co-hosts on The Five] say are mirages ... even if you removed all the jobs that we lost during COVID, under the Biden-Harris administration we still got more jobs at a faster clip than we did under the Trump administration."
You can hear her remarks in the video below.
Jessica: Biden oversaw the best recovery in the G-7 by far and away. Unemployment in this country is lower. He extended the number of people who got access to affordable healthcare, medicaid expansion. We're producing more oil than any other time..

Many concurred—and pointed out just what we should expect from the second Trump administration.
The legacy of Biden/Harris will be jobs and health care. The legacy of Trump will be tax cuts for billionaires and absolute chaos.
— Zach Evans (@bikesarehealing.bsky.social) December 10, 2024 at 6:27 PM
And now we get to watch as Trump and Republicans break it all over again. "When will they ever learn? When will they every learn." I fear the answer is "never."
— directorgirl (@directorgirl.bsky.social) December 10, 2024 at 6:28 PM
It’ll be interesting to see how quickly the new administration screws it all up. But you can be certain that they’ll take credit for all of Biden’s accomplishments until then…
— PDC (@pdcisneros.bsky.social) December 10, 2024 at 6:12 PM
people are going to miss the Biden administration and economy. it's going to be a very painful lesson for all of us the next four years.
— vivianplee (@vivianplee.bsky.social) December 11, 2024 at 12:43 PM
I predict Biden's gift to America will be squandered away by Trump in year one
— randyc25.bsky.social (@randyc25.bsky.social) December 11, 2024 at 10:28 AM
The Democratic Party could learn a few things about communicating from her! Kamala was tasked with separating herself from Joe Biden when the truth is the lowest unemployment, high job creation, best ever stock market, most oil ever produced in the history of our country, lowest inflation of all G7
— AJ Lime (@limeral.bsky.social) December 11, 2024 at 11:28 AM
She's always hitting hit out of the park on that show. Never misses a beat.
— stampera👾 (@stampera.bsky.social) December 10, 2024 at 6:51 PM
Three sure things: 1. Trump and his particle board cabinet of idiots will tank the economy. 2. Trump and the GOP will be desperately looking for scapegoats. 3. That's when Republican criming escalates.
— Grumpy Zeus (@grumpyzeus.bsky.social) December 10, 2024 at 6:12 PM
Tarlov has long documented the success of Biden's economic policies.
In July 2023, she praised Biden's "tremendous" economic record to the stunned silence of her co-hosts, who are typically among the most prominent critics of the Biden administration on the network.
At the time, she said that the U.S. "has the highest post-pandemic growth in the G7 and lowest inflation. 13.1 million jobs [have been] created, so yes, all the ones lost during COVID have come back and then we're gaining jobs at a faster clip than we did under the Trump presidency."
Tarlov also called out "Republican Senators humiliating themselves on Twitter now, talking about how excited they are that the broadband is coming to them." In particular, she criticized Alabama Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville, who took to Twitter to celebrate his state receiving over $1 billion in funding for broadband efforts through the bipartisan infrastructure law, despite voting against the bill.

Jim Carrey Reveals Refreshingly Candid Reason He Decided To Do 'Sonic The Hedgehog 3'
Dec 13, 2024
The actor Jim Carrey was supposed to be enjoying retirement, according to him in several interviews in recent years.
However, he recently started walking the red carpets for the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and he has a relatable reason for coming back to his role in the blockbuster series. Carey plays Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic series, and fans were happy he came back for the role.
Carey, who had declared that he was stepping back from acting roles to focus on other artistic pursuits, joked with an interviewer about what would make him come back to the screen.
Carey was refreshingly honest, if playful.
“I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius. Which is a bit of a stretch...And, you know, it's just I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money, frankly."
People appreciated his candor.
A lot of people said that he was probably joking.
Some said that money is the only reason Carrey would come out of retirement.
Others thought this was an easy answer.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is currently playing in theaters.

Kevin Bacon And Kyra Sedgwick Hilariously Admit Secrets To Each Other In Viral 'We Don't Judge' Video
Dec 13, 2024
Successful communication between spouses is when one listens first while the other shares a revelation.
Actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, who've been married since 1988, demonstrated they had this in the bag while participating in the viral TikTok challenge, "We listen and we don't judge."
The judgment-free challenge, which may have been designed to elicit envy, involves couples taking turns allowing each other to admit a secret about the things they do behind the other's back, usually to avoid conflict, with some admissions bordering on the shady.
Bacon and Sedgwick, who often post fun social media videos through song, with Bacon on guitar, consistently show they are relationship goals. There's a reason why they've been together for over 35 years.
Playful energy and a good sense of humor are something they seem to excel at, especially after relocating to farm in Connecticut and periodically heading to New York for work.
In a recent video, the Hollywood couple sang the title of the challenge and Bacon went first with his little secret.
“Sometimes, if you’re not home, I’ll walk around, and just yell at you for leaving a lot of drawers and doors open…Just so that I don’t yell at you when you get home," said the Footloose actor, to which Sedgwick laughed in shock.
Next, Sedgwick admitted to leaving certain beauty products, like testers and lotions, by the sink in the hopes he would try them.
“You’ll use it and you’ll go, ‘Oh that’s really a good thing,’ and I’ll go, ‘Well, I left it there for you,’ because you need it,” she said. Bacon humored her, saying, "We all need it. Okay, no judgment," and resumed strumming for his turn.
You can watch them giving the latest viral TikTok challenge a whirl.
@kevinbacon We listen and we don’t judge. Right, @kyrasedgwickofficial? #welistenanddontjudge
Next, Bacon recalled Sedgwick was in a bad mood and had bought a new dress. "I didn't wanna tell you that I didn't like the dress because I thought it would make your mood bad," he laughed, adding, "But then I had to double down on it because every time you wear it, I have to say I like it because otherwise…"
The Closer star interjected by asking, "Is it the green dress?"
Bacon confirmed it was what he referred to as "The jolly green tote bag," which left them both in stitches.
Staying on the topic of clothes, Sedgwick said she would often "recycle" his crew-neck shirts because she preferred he wear more collared shirts.
Bacon responded to the revelation glumly but then caught himself, saying, "Wait, no judgment. That's so nice. Alright."
They dueted one last time before Bacon strummed his last strum.
The clip ended with Sedgwick joking:
“So getting a divorce. It’s over.”
Fans responded to the annoyingly sweet banter between the loving couple.
