The race between President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden was not the only historic election that occurred a few weeks ago, on November 3.

Plenty of notable state and local contests were decided that night too.

In Delaware, LGBTQ+ activist Sarah McBride was elected to the state Senate, making her the first ever openly transgender state senator in the entire United States, Associated Press reported.

Of course, plenty of intolerant people out there were decidedly not thrilled with the win.

But in a recent Twitter post, McBride demonstrated she has absolutely no problem holding her own against abusive comments.

People on Twitter loved McBride's ability to somehow wage an internet clap back and embrace her role as a civil servant all at the same time.

Then the well-placed memes came flying in.

A few people decided to celebrate with their own wordplay.

The only thing more triumphant than McBride's epic response was her statement after the results became clear on election night.

"I think tonight's results demonstrate what I've known my entire life, which is that the residents of this district are fair-minded, and they're looking at candidates' ideas and not their identity."
"It is my hope that a young LGBTQ kid here in Delaware or really anywhere in this country can look at the results and know that our democracy is big enough for them, too."

McBride joined multiple other transgender and non-binary candidates who enjoyed historic wins.

In Kansas, Stephanie Byers took a seat in the state's House of Representatives. She became the first Native American transgender person elected to any office in the country.

And in Oklahoma, Mauree Turner's election to the state legislature made them the first non-binary person ever elected to a state legislature in the U.S.

McBride and her colleagues will undoubtedly face hateful bigotry in the future. Here's hoping they mostly receive the support and respect they have earned.

GOP Rep. Ousted From Chairmanship By Trump Calls Out Colleagues For Russian Propaganda In Resurfaced Clip

Speaking to anchor Jake Tapper on CNN last April, Ohio Republican Mike Turner said that Russian propaganda had "infected" the GOP in a clip that has resurfaced after President-elect Donald Trump had him ousted as House Intelligence Committee chair.

At the time, Turner made it clear that his fellow Republicans were parroting Russian propaganda about the war in Ukraine and its relationship with NATO members. That claim came after House Foreign Affairs Committee chair Michael McCaul, who said he thinks "Russian propaganda has made its way into the United States, unfortunately, and it’s infected a good chunk of my party’s base."
