Halle Berry Warns That Women Are Turning Themselves Into 'Monsters' With Cosmetic Surgery
Dec 02, 2024
Academy Award-winning actor Halle Berry pushed back against the stigmatization of women and aging in a powerful interview with Fortune magazine.
The 58-year-old Hollywood bombshell established herself as a leading actor in 2001 when she became the first African-American woman and first woman of color to win the Oscar for her captivating performance as a struggling widow in Monster's Ball.
Berry touched on natural beauty positivity, the "gift of aging," and female empowerment against unfair societal norms imposed by the patriarchy.
She began the interview by discussing an annoying male double standard.
"Historically, women, as we age, we just get old, right? Men get sexy," said Berry.
"They get gray hair and they're silver foxes. We're just old...we're haggard."
"Society tells us or has told us that our time is up. Well, I know that we're just getting our groove, we're just starting."
"But women really don't understand that yet because society has told us something different."
She insisted that it was up to women to "reclaim that narrative" and change how they're perceived throughout their lives.
Berry continued:
"Aging is a privilege, and we should see it that way. We should feel that way about getting older. We should feel like the crowned jewels of our society."
"I have always known that I'm more than this shell that I walk around in. I have longed for someone to say something to me other than, 'Oh gosh, you're so pretty.' "
"I've longed to hear other words. I know I'm more than this," she said.
Here's a sample from her interview.
Berry has been a Hollywood sex symbol since the 2000s and was named one of People's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" and "Sexiest Black Woman" by Access Hollywood's "TV One Access" survey.
By being an advocate for women's health, the mother of two is helping other women who are going through menopause to embrace their natural beauty.
In May 2024, Berry joined bipartisan Senators in Washington DC to push legislation that would fund $275 million towards research and education surrounding menopause therapies and medicine.
During her speech in front of the Capitol, Berry unashamedly told reporters:
"I'm in menopause, OK?"
"The shame has to be taken out of menopause. We have to talk about this very normal part of our life that happens."
"Our doctors can't even say the word to us, let alone walk us through the journey," she added at the time.
Berry also spoke out against cosmetic surgery, which Hollywood has long been known to push on female actors.
She said:
"As I've aged, I've been determined to age gracefully and naturally. It's a shame that as women, we're being told that we have to find a way to stay eternally young...forever 30, as though we're not allowed to be human and do what we're naturally born to do."
"We're born to age and die."
"But somehow, as women, we have to do the unthinkable. We have to figure out a way to do it, and unfortunately, we're turning ourselves into monsters trying to do that."
"I'm committed to being a spokesperson for allowing yourself to age gracefully, knowing that you're more than this shell you're walking around in."
Social media users shared their thoughts cosmetic surgery.
Some had a hard time accepting this could apply to everyone.
After discovering a "newfound sense of empowerment and health" through her own wellness research journey, Berry launched a women's wellness business called Respin to help women embrace the natural transition and become "inspired by the eternal beauty that comes with it."

Aside from her acting career and recent turn as a film director and producer, signing with Range Media Partners in 2023, Berry has continued actively engaging in philanthropy.
She's joined organizations like the Jenesse Center in Los Angeles to help victims of domestic abuse, as well as supporting other causes including Love Our Children USA, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Stand Up to Cancer, and Black Lives Matter.

Musician Khalid Opens Up About His Sexuality After Being 'Outed' By Ex On Social Media
Dec 02, 2024
Singer-songwriter Khalid opened up about his sexuality in a series of candid tweets in response to being "outed" by fellow musician Hugo D Almonte, who implied they'd been in a relationship.
Khalid shared a Pride flag emoji along with the following short and sweet message:
"there yall go. next topic please lol"
You can see his post below.
After one of his followers responded that they "hope Mr Khalid isn’t GEHHH!” Khalid responded with:
"I am! And that's okay."
You can see his post below.
In a follow-up tweet, Khalid shared why he felt the need to address his sexuality:
"I got outted and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me [heart emoji] love yall."
You can see his post below.
He was also quick to point out in a response to another follower that he "wasn't hiding anything" but that his sexuality is "just not any of your business."
You can see his post below.
Khalid later spoke to Vulture about his decision to publicly speak about his sexuality, saying his tweets were a response to now-deleted tweets fromfellow singer Hugo D Almonte, who implied he and Khalid had been in a relationship at one point.
Almonte allegedly posted on X that he had ended things with a “dumb ass singer” who had falsely accused him of breaking into their home.
The situation intensified when Almonte, in another since-deleted tweet, shared a photo of himself with Khalid, captioned: “Bitch ass lied and said that I broke into his house cause I didn’t want him.”
In his own remarks to Vulture, Almonte claimed he “never” meant to “out someone who’s clearly been out already in the community in Los Angeles.” Almonte said his “intentions” were to “share my story and share how [Khalid] tried to use his power to silence me because I simply ended our relationship, he was afraid of what I might say.”
Many have praised Khalid for coming out regardless of the circumstances.
Khalid's third album, the critically acclaimed Sincere, was released earlier this year.

Courtroom Sketch Artist's Drawings Of Rudy Giuliani Looking Unhinged Are An Instant Classic
Dec 02, 2024
Courtroom sketch artist Jane Rosenberg's latest sketches of the disbarred former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani have gone viral after she captured him in remarkable detail lashing out in court.
Giuliani appeared in federal court in Manhattan for a case where he has been ordered to pay nearly $150 million to two Georgia election workers he defamed.
The ruling requires him to surrender significant assets, including a vintage 1980s Mercedes sports car and a luxury Manhattan apartment, to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. Giuliani was found to have falsely accused the two workers of ballot tampering during the 2020 presidential election.
Judge Louis Liman suggested that Giuliani had not fully complied with the order to turn over his assets, sparking an angry response from Giuliani, who complained the case had caused significant personal upheaval.
Liman expressed skepticism over Giuliani’s claim of difficulty obtaining paperwork to transfer ownership of the car. Leaning forward and pointing his finger at the judge, Giuliani insisted he had applied for the document, but it had not yet arrived.
Rosenberg's sketches caught the moment Giuliani spoke out of turn and scolded the judge with the following remark:
“Your implication that I have been not diligent about this is totally incorrect. I’m not impoverished. Everything I have is tied up."
"I don’t have a car, I don’t have a credit card, I don’t have cash. I can’t pay my bills.”
Liman scolded Giuliani for his outburst, warning Giuliani's attorneys that Giuliani is "not going to be permitted to speak and the court will take action" the next time he interrupts a hearing.
You can see the sketches below.

Rosenberg's sketches quickly went viral and were lauded for capturing Giuliani's fall from grace.
In an interview with CNN host Kaitlan Collins, Rosenberg said Giuliani was "losing it" in court and was even shouting orders at his defense team in the middle of the hearing:
“His decorum has certainly changed from when I sketched him 44 years ago as a prosecutor. He’s losing it. He was wild and I feel bad for anyone who represents him. He blurts out orders at his lawyers who are at the podium and, you know, he’s interrupting all the time.”
Rosenberg added:
“His attorney is turning around like he doesn’t know how to handle it. He’s in the middle of speaking to a judge at the podium and behind him he’s shouting orders."
“That was the attorney who just quit the day after that, and now he has a new attorney, and so this one tried to speak and when the judge told him he’s not allowed to speak anymore after he had that burst, he started shouting at him and pointing at him.”
You can hear what she said in the video below.

When Collins asked what it was like to hear Giuliani say that he can't pay his bills, Rosenberg said she is "sure he’s managing okay, and these women who he’s defamed are not seeing much of it [the money Giuliani has been ordered to pay] at all.”

People Share Their Biggest 'I F*cked Up' Experiences
Dec 02, 2024
We're all human here, so we all make mistakes. Most mistakes can be resolved with a genuine apology, hot glue to fix a broken vase, and a good cleaning solution for a big spill.
Other mistakes, like bullying someone or breaking someone's heart, are much more guilt-inducing and harder for everyone to get over.
But there are some mistakes that are so bad, it's hard to imagine ever coming back from them.
Already cringing, Redditor No-Consideration7967 asked:
"What's your biggest 'I f**ked up' moment?"
Never The Same
"In my young 20s, I went to pick up a really heavy object with a coworker. Instead of waiting for him to grab it all the way, I just went for it."
"The thing shifted weirdly and I tore the ligaments that connect your lower back to your butt. My back has never been the same."
"You think you’re invincible in your young 20s, but you are not!"
- sneakytokey
"Yeah, lifting large and/or heavy things is always a team effort and relies on communication. I hurt my back once trying to move a sleeper sofa with a guy."
"We said we would lift on the count of three. In my mind that meant lift when we say three. In his, it meant something a second later, like, 'One, two, three, go!'"
"So we both torqued it at different times. I'm fine now but still p**sed about it. Took two months to heal and we still argue about who was right about the count."
- Gotforgot
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
"Last night, I blew my nose pretty hard and heard a super loud squeak followed by my hearing being all f**ked up. I hoped to sleep it off, but nope."
"I went to the emergency room this morning and yup, I tore a lil' hole in my eardrum. Gonna take a few weeks to heal. Great."
- FroggiJoy87
"I sneezed soo hard one time that I broke two ribs and bruised three. I feel your pain."
- HARRY_POTTKETTLE
Caught On Camera
"Not me, but my town's mayor told an EMT to unalive herself during the aftermath of a budget meeting (right in front of me)."
"The regret that washed over his face when he realized it was still streaming to YouTube for the town to see was priceless."
- Horny44Sweetheart
"Regret that it was streaming, not regret that he said it. Great guy."
- diligent_sundays
"My response would've been, 'Sir, we're still streaming. I'm now calling for a vote of no confidence and your resignation.'"
- OutrageousMoney4339
"It took a while, but we may have finally found a worse mayor than the one from 'Jaws.'"
- jajais4u
Preparation Gone Wrong
"I once accidentally created an infinite network loop on my college campus' network and crashed the entire school's internet. This was during my certification program as a Cisco Certified Networking Administrator."
- Sexy5Princess
"You were prepping for the CCNA in a live environment? That's kinda wild."
- christ0fer
Yeah, "No Big Deal"
"After a delightful shower one evening, I decided to blow dry my hair using the hair dryer that had some exposed wiring. It had always worked decently so I figured no big deal, it's fine."
"Anyway, I got electrocuted and my hand got burned, but on the plus side, I got to see blue lightning go pinging up my arm."
"I no longer own a hair dryer."
- Stunning-Queen5
"I was traumatized for weeks when I accidentally touched the back of the dryer once and got a quick sting. I can’t imagine what you went through!"
- Outrageous-Rope-8707
Can't Take It Back
"Quitting my amazing dream job during a manic episode back in 2019. I got into a shouting argument with my boss."
"Anyway, I was a couple of months into what would turn out to be nine months of ever more desperate unemployment when it finally hit me, 'What the f**k did I do?'"
"I still haven't recovered from that mistake. Bipolar post-mania clarity can be truly heartbreaking. Wreckage everywhere, and no real sense of how it all happened."
- cartercharles
Struggles In The Call Center
"The top one was probably the time I got fired from my job. I did the one thing you shouldn't do when dealing with the public and called the guy on the other end of the phone (it was a virtual call center) an id**t."
"He pushed all of the right buttons, unfortunately, and looking back, I think he was one of those callers who was deliberately trying to wind me up."
- Dalekbuster523
Technical Difficulties
"I was having a fully blown panic attack about messages my ex (then-girlfriend) had sent me while out partying. I was on the phone with my friend, who was trying to calm me down, and he said, 'Don’t reply right now. Send me a screenshot of the messages, and we can walk through them, and I’ll tell you what I think.'"
"I sent the screenshot right back to my ex…"
- TiktaalikFrolic
"I did this in MSN Messager, and id**t teenager me was gossiping about this girl to another girl, sent a screenshot to the same 'window' instead of sending to the other, and didn't notice!"
"Then she asked, 'What is this?' I proceeded to send many, many screenshots while claiming my computer was going nuts."
"The thing is this girl was having issues with a fake social media (the late orkut) account acting like it was her, harassing other girls. After this, she probably thought the fake account was me (it wasn't!)"
- Wonderful-Morning963
Eye-Opening Moment
"When I woke up in the hospital to my mother, my aunt, and my grandma all standing above me. I knew I f**ked up bad because my grandma and my mom hadn’t spoken in over a decade, let alone willingly be in the same room together."
"I had totaled my truck and gotten life-flighted to the hospital."
- AtmosphereAlarming52
When The Common Denominator Is You
"Not one moment in particular, but when I realized had fully ostracized myself from three separate friend groups. Realizing that I just kept f**king people over and pushing them away hurt badly."
- BitMixKit
Just Heartbreaking
"My grandfather had passed, and I inherited his record collection."
"While attempting to repair a record player, I was testing it and dropped his Johnny Cash Live at San Quentin album on my garage floor."
"I went inside and just laid on the floor and cried."
- Ncheney21
Technological Mishaps
"I looped the network and ended up costing about 100K in downtime."
"I was so tired, was migrating a data center and had several failures during the process."
"I was on about hour 39 of an eight-hour day and plugged a switch into a switch, completely spaced on what I did. IT took a couple of hours to find my f**k-up."
- RubixRube
"Well, now I don't feel so bad about the four for downtime I caused by attempting to deploy a new VLAN on our ancient network. The switches didn't like it and all of them needed to be restarted."
"Okay. Fine. Do all that. But because of the network restart, the HA database pair failed to negotiate for the floating IP for primary, causing the webservers to not be able to find the database."
"I was new to the company and didn't know that the one health check that was still failing was trying to tell me this because I was unfamiliar with the naming of everything. (The previous guy liked to use Transformers and mythology in the making of resources. How the fuck was I supposed to know what "Wheeljack" meant in this instance?)"
"I eventually figured it out after 4 hours of solo panic because I started the work at 1:00 AM."
- cbftw
Gambling Addiction
"Finally coming to the realization of truly how much money I lost gambling, and the more important thing, the girl of my dreams."
"I would give all that money (enough to buy a house) away all over again to get her back."
- rakedully
A Heartbreaking Mistake
"My husband is an extremely patient man. His father was an abusive piece of s**t, his mum was a drug addict, and we talked a lot about that. We were best mates before we were husbands. I buddy-punched his arm a few times before he confided in me, it really scared him when I did that. Obviously, I stopped."
"Unfortunately, I was also an addict. For a long time, and he was there for most of it. He was willing to stick with me while I got clean, through all the ugly s**t, as long as I actually stuck to it."
"Well, I relapsed once. Once. Because when he looked at me, he knew I was coming down, he asked if I had more and came to take it from me. And I f**king punched him. Right in the face."
"His expression f**king killed me. I don't remember a whole lot of that night, but that face haunts me. Of all the s**t I put him through, that's the thing that I'm never going to forgive myself for. Even though he says he has."
- metal_mace
A Doctor's Tale
"Thinking I could be a doctor."
"I’m now in my third year of the program feeling utterly lost and hopeless. I struggled from the start but kept pushing myself to keep going. I have missed out on so many family/friend events due to hours studying, I don’t have many hobbies anymore and feel like a shell of who I used to be."
"I am extremely depressed and feel incompetent. The only reason I have not quit is because school has put me 300k in debt and there’s no other career I can make a salary high enough to pay it off."
- No-Introduction7977
It's hard to imagine mistakes that are so bad that there's really no going back.
But it's understandable why these were the moments that, when asked these questions, these Redditors immediately thought of.

Ariana Grande Watched 'Wicked' With Her Grandma At Her Childhood Movie Theater—And We're Sobbing
Dec 02, 2024
Ariana Grande took her 99-year-old grandma, Marjorie Grande—affectionately known as Nonna—to see the film adaptation of Wicked at a very special movie theater last week, a moment the pop idol has waited for since, since birth!
Grande has been obsessed with Wicked ever since her Nonna took her to see the Broadway musical version in 2003 when Grande was ten years old.
When talks of a movie adaptation of Wicked gained traction, the "Thank U, Next" singer was determined to nab the role of Galinda–a.k.a "Glinda the Good Witch."
Her dream finally came true after years of preparation, taking singing and acting lessons and enduring a grueling audition process.
Casting for Wicked was confirmed in June 2022 with Grande as Galinda and Tony-winner Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, a.k.a. the Wicked Witch of the West. The film opened on November 22 and was an instant box office smash.
The full circle moment came when Grande flew to her home city of Boca Rotan, Florida, for 24 hours so she could watch Wicked with her beloved Nonna.
Traveling to any of the official premieres to support Grande would not have been ideal, so the singer made sure to experience the fruits of her labor with Nonna, who had just turned 99 last month, by coming home.
She wrote on her Instagram story:
“flew to boca for a day to watch with Nonna at the movie theater i grew up going to every weekend, Cinemark 20 in Boca.”
She is seen here watching the movie with Nonna and Grande's brother, Frankie Grande.
Not seen in the photos but tagged was her boyfriend Ethan Slater, who also stars in Wicked playing Boq Woodsman, the munchkin in love with Galinda.

Nonna is beaming watching her granddaughter radiating on the silver screen.
Grande also tagged Wicked director Jon M. Chu and wrote:
“Thrilled to report when the sugar glider had her drum solo nonna exclaimed loudly: ‘oh I LOVE that.’"
@arianagrande/Instagram
Frankie Grande reshared his sister's post and wrote:
“This was one of the most special moments in my life. I will remember it & cherish it til I’m 99 too.”
Grande posted a video of her holding Nonna's hand as the pair watched the ending of the musical number "Popular."
One social media user shared a photo of a young Ari going backstage with her Nonna and meeting Kristin Chenoweth, who originated Glinda in the original Broadway cast of Wicked.
Fans couldn't be happier for Grande's exciting and monumental new chapter and sharing it with her loved ones.
Fun fact: One user pointed out that Nonna has been around long enough to see the debut of the 1939 film adaptation of the Judy Garland movie inspired by L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
X (formerly Twitter) user Hania Khan wrote:
"Ariana Grande's grandmother was born in 1925, meaning she was 14 when The Wizard of Oz premiered."
"It's amazing to think she witnessed the film's original release as a teen, never imagining that nearly a century later, her granddaughter would star in a reimagined version of the same iconic story!"
Wicked: Part I has alreadygrossed an estimated $262.2 million domestically, with an additional $96.8 million internationally, as of December 2, 2024, for a worldwide total of $359 million.
Wicked: Part 2 is scheduled for a November 2025 release.
