Couple Faces Hilariously Awkward Moment On Ship After Lying About Being On Honeymoon

TikToker Ricky Liu and his boyfriend lied about being on their honeymoon to get a free upgrade on their room while on a cruise in Vietnam—but they didn't expect their lie to be broadcast to the entire ship.

File this one under: when travel hacks backfire in a sweet, albeit guilt-inducing, way.

TikToker Ricky Liu and his boyfriend recently took a cruise in Vietnam and engaged in a well-known "hack" for travel: they told the crew of the ship that they were on their honeymoon so they could score a room upgrade.

But they were on a honeymoon for a wedding they had not had yet, as they aren't even engaged, let alone married.

What happened after the crew upgraded their room was a comedy of awkwardness. It turned out this cruise ship's honeymoon suite and treatment is very enthusiastic, so not only did the room upgrade come with rose petals on the bed, they were also celebrated at dinner.

The table for two was set with even more rose petals, and staff came by with rainbow colored drinks and swayed along with cellphones lit as Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" played over the speakers.

The two could not have looked more embarrassed and guilty during the whole event.

Crowds were relatively light, according to several news organizations, with The Washington Post reporting that opening-day attendance was "relatively sparse compared with past National Mall events." The Post even said that “The crowd thinly covered an area about the length of the National Museum of American History, smaller than some more outdoor movie screenings.”
