Guy Stops New Year's Eve Party To Propose To Girlfriend—And It Couldn't Have Gone More Awkwardly

TikToker @caesthetically filmed the cringey interaction, which left partygoers stunned.

We can all agree marriage proposals should be a happy and beautiful occasion.

But it can turn awkward quickly if marriage isn't what both people want, or if a person expected to be proposed to in another way.

Cass, or @caesthetically on TikTok, was traveling for the holidays and caught what she believed to be the most awkward proposal ever on video and posted it to the platform early in the new year.

In a video, a woman was standing and smiling awkwardly as her boyfriend called her to join him on the stage. The situation was only made worse when people in the crowd started chanting for her to go up there, too.

It quickly became evident why her boyfriend wanted her up on the stage when the guy asked the band to stop playing, effectively putting the entire party on pause.

Throughout the entire time on stage, the woman's face appeared to be frozen in a grimace as her boyfriend told her how he felt about her, got down on one knee and proposed.

But the second-to-worst moment was the lingering pause after the boyfriend proposed, which he filled with:

"It's a simple yes or no."

But the most awkward moment had to be the way the woman said "Yes," which only managed to make the situation worse.

At the end of the video, many people are seen in the crowd cringing over the end of the proposal, clearly feeling the vibe of the lackluster yes and the very public proposal.

Some viewers were cringing over the public proposal simply because of it being public.

Others were cringing over the guy's push for a response and the woman's final reply.

It was clear the audience and the TikTok viewers were all equally anticipating the woman to say no after her reluctance to go up on stage, as well as her lack of reply for so long.

It was also telling that the proposal ended in an argument off to the side after leaving the stage, rather than an excited embrace that couples typically share when they realize they're about to spend the rest of their lives together.
