Taylor Swift Applauded After Old Tweet Ripping Trump For 'Threatening Violence' Resurfaces

Mark Hamill reminded X of a 2020 tweet by Taylor Swift ripping Donald Trump for saying 'when the looting starts the shooting starts.'

Star Wars icon Mark Hamill took to social media on Monday to resurface a noteworthy post by Taylor Swift from May 2020, when the pop star criticized then-President Donald Trump and confidently predicted his electoral defeat.

In the post, Swift confronted Trump over his handling of protests following George Floyd's tragic murder, condemning his rhetoric on white supremacy and racism.

In the summer of 2020, Trump criticized citizens who took to the streets to condemn racism and police brutality following the murder of Floyd, suggesting they should be shot "when the looting starts," breathing life into stereotypes about people of color being more inclined toward criminality.

At the time, Swift criticized Trump for having "the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence" and correctly predicted that the American people would "vote [him] out in November."

Hamill commented that the post "has aged remarkably well," with a special emphasis on the part where Swift confidently stated that Trump would be voted out.

Hamill's post came as Swift continues to be targeted by the far-right because of her efforts to register young voters.

Last month, Fox News personality Jesse Watters was criticized for suggesting Swift could be a covert government operative.

During his show Jesse Watters Primetime, Watters presented a clip falsely attributed to a Pentagon official, claiming that Swift was considered by the Pentagon's psychological operations unit as an asset to combat online misinformation.

Conspiracies about Swift circulated further ahead of the Super Bowl and conspiracists suggested that the NFL rigged the season for Swift—who has been in a relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce since September 2023—to attend, allegedly orchestrated by President Joe Biden and the CIA to boost ratings and promote a political agenda, ultimately culminating in an endorsement of Biden.

Many agreed with Hamill's observation.

This resurfacing of Swift's post follows recent complaints by Trump on Truth Social, where he targeted Swift and speculated about her potential endorsement of Biden in the upcoming presidential election.

In characteristically self-promoting fashion, Trump claimed credit for Swift's financial success, citing his involvement in passing the Music Modernization Act in 2018. He argued that Swift should acknowledge his contribution and labeled supporting Biden as "disloyal."

Trump said there is "no way" Swift "could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money."

We suspect Trump's admonition won't hold up quite as well as Swift's 2020 tweet has.
