Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene was criticized after she said red states should impose a 5-year voting moratorium for Democrats who move to them in an effort to kneecap their power as a viable voting bloc.
Greene made these undemocratic remarks during an appearance on Real America's Voice, a platform she has regularly used to further her "us vs. them" rhetoric between red and blue states.
She suggested those who move from blue states—which Republicans have long alleged are falling apart due to Democratic leadership—should not get to "bring [their] values" to red states, essentially punishing any left-leaning person regardless of the individual policies they may or may not support.
You can hear what Greene said in the video below.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene suggests that if Democrats move to a red state, they shouldn't be allowed to vote for five years:

"You can live there and you can work there, but you don't get to bring your values."”— Republican Accountability (@Republican Accountability) 1677007720
Greene said:
"What I think is something red states could propose is, well, okay, if Democrat voters choose to leave these blue states where they cannot tolerate the living conditions, they don't want their children to be taught these horrible things and they've really changed their minds on the types of policies they support..."
"Well, guess what? If they move to a red state, maybe you don't get to vote for five years. You can live there, you can work there, but you don't get to bring your values."
This isn't the first time Greene has made such a proposal given that in 2021 she said "brainwashed people" who move from California and New York need a "cooling-off period" before they can be allowed to vote.
Greene's suggestion has proven just as unpopular now as it was then and she's faced heavy criticism for it.
“@AccountableGOP MTG is going to just keep doing this while the GOP party says nothing. So between this and Donald Trump being one of the top choices for GOP in 2024, what exactly does the GOP stand for? What happened to trying to fix inflation and help Americans guy groceries?”— Republican Accountability (@Republican Accountability) 1677007720
“@AccountableGOP Remind me never to visit GA 14.”— Republican Accountability (@Republican Accountability) 1677007720
“@AccountableGOP So MTG favors taxation without representation yet remains in her party's House leadership. Interesting.”— Republican Accountability (@Republican Accountability) 1677007720
“@AccountableGOP Cmon!!!! Republicans have got to call this what it is! Just plain nuts! It’s not even constitutional and republicans call themselves constitutionalist! Every time she talks we all get a little dumber from having listened. Geeesssh!!”— Republican Accountability (@Republican Accountability) 1677007720
“@AccountableGOP Hey MTG: Sounds like a violation of the Commerce Clause (to those of us who follow the law).”— Republican Accountability (@Republican Accountability) 1677007720
“@AccountableGOP If @RepMTG doesn’t like the democratic values of our country, she should get out!!”— Republican Accountability (@Republican Accountability) 1677007720
“@AccountableGOP She is what happens when a person who has been bullied her entire life gets elected by a population who puts no value in education or critical thinking.”— Republican Accountability (@Republican Accountability) 1677007720
“@AccountableGOP Anyone care to explain how things work in this country to this seditious prig? While the Constitution "makes no provision for secession", it can be "amended". However, if we follow the brilliant teachings of #MTG, red states, IF they managed to secede, would fail in mere weeks.🤡”— Republican Accountability (@Republican Accountability) 1677007720
Greene's remarks came the same week she came under fire for calling for red states to secede from the United States and suggesting a "national divorce" is in order.
Greene claimed "everyone" she talks to believes the country "need[s] to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government" to escape "sick and disgusting woke culture issues" furthered by Democrats' "traitorous America Last policies."
But that idea has also been rehashed and she polled her Twitter followers in October 2021 on whether they thought the U.S. should “have a national divorce" only to be met with considerable pushback even by members of her own party who pointed out that such a proposal is unconstitutional.
