It's been nearly two years since the beloved sitcom Modern Family ended its run of over a decade on ABC.

But it seems the off-screen friendship of Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, who played the beloved couple Mitchell and Cameron on the series, remains strong as ever.

This was evidenced by a recent, playful exchange on Instagram.

Ferguson began the shenanigans by posting a throwback picture of his younger self.

Ferguson seemed to post the picture as an attempt to lighten the mood as the world enters its second year of the global pandemic, as evidenced by the picture's tongue-in-cheek caption.

"Took this pic right before the pandemic."
"It's been a long two years."

Ferguson's fans, as well as his celebrity friends, were delighted by his adorable picture and lighthearted humor, with several relating to how it feels like far more than two years since the pandemic began.

Ferguson's husband, Lawyer and Producer Justin Mitka, was also smitten by his love's sweet, cheeky post.

But seeing an opportunity for some light-hearted fun, Stonestreet reposted Ferguson's picture to his own Instagram page, with some minor Photoshopping.

Instead of the fresh faced, boyish Ferguson of the earlier picture, Stonestreet treated us to a disheveled, white haired, white bearded Ferguson, no doubt poking fun at just how big a toll the pandemic had taken on his longtime co-star and all of us.

However, Stonestreet's short and succinct caption proved that this was a jest of only the purest whimsy.

"Miss you @jessetyler."

Fans and fellow celebrities found themselves in stitches at Stonestreet's loving dig.

Once Ferguson caught wind of Stonestreet's little joke, his response was pretty much exactly how one would expect the lovably high strung Mitchell Pritchett of Modern Family might have responded.

As was somewhat to be expected, the playful banter between the former co-stars left fans of the multiple Emmy award winning series missing and wanting more of Mitch and Cam.

Following the series finale of Modern Family, there was some casual talk about a possible spinoff, which would potentially focus on Mitch and Cam and their new chapter living in Missouri.

While nothing has come of those rumors so far, the reaction from the adoring fans of Ferguson and Stonestreet, not to mention the ongoing chemistry between the beloved duo, make it abundantly clear should the tantalizing idea ever materialize, they'll have an eager and sizable viewership.
