Starbucks Barista Gets Over $20k In Tips After Mask-Less Customer Complained On Facebook That She Was Denied Service

Starbucks Barista Gets Over $20k In Tips After Mask-Less Customer Complained On Facebook That She Was Denied Service

There are a lot of people out there with anger in their hearts.

But honestly, how hard is it to wear a mask?

When a Karen by the name of Amber Lynn Gilles went to a Starbucks in San Diego, California she was refused service for not wearing a mask.

This did not sit right with her and she felt compelled to try and shame the Starbucks employee on Facebook for following the rules and regulations the employee is required to follow.

"Meet lenen from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I'm not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption."

The post shows a Starbucks Barista named Lenin Gutierrez, who is doing his job and upholding the rules of the business. For some reason, this upsets Karen.

If she thought shaming a Starbucks employee because he wouldn't serve her without a mask would go over well, it did not.

Everyone asked what she was thinking.

Again, all this is over San Diego County's requirement for everyone to wear face coverings in most public settings.

People thought Lenin was doing such a good job, they wanted to thank him. A supporter set up a GoFundMe page for Lenin, for people to send donations.

Matt Cowan was thinking he might be able to raise a few hundred dollars for Lenin, but was quickly overwhelmed.

"I set it at $1,000 thinking that was a reach but we would be lucky if we hit like $250, and when we hit $100 I was overwhelmed by that."

At time of writing, the GFM is sitting at just shy of $30,000.

Lenin has been in contact with Cowan and is incredibly grateful for everything. He has dreams of being a dancer, and plans to use the donations to help him achieve that goal.

He even made a video thanking everyone.

Despite all this positivity, people online were very focused on how wrong the anti-mask people are misinterpreting the constitution and federal, state and local laws.

Masks are recommended by a variety of medical bodies and experts to keep the spread of the virus to manageable levels.

While cloth masks, and other cheap coverings might not be as effective as a surgical mask or N95 mask, the CDC, World Health Organization and the Mayo Clinic all recommend some covering to cut down the disease's rate of transmission.

Additionally, claims that wearing a mask will cause a significant decrease in oxygen intake are unfounded. Depending on your mask, there maybe an increase in CO2 breathed in, but not enough to cause harm.

At worst, if you're stuck wearing a mask literally all day, you might get a headache. The solution is a short break without the mask, maybe at home before you go to Starbucks and bother people.

So if you're going around town, it should be no problem to wear a mask, Karen.

If you too are out and about and for some reason don't want to wear a mask, know that service can be denied to you, just like if you don't want to wear shoes or a shirt. It doesn't matter if you think the viral pandemic that shut down just about every country is a hoax.

And if you have a medical exemption for wearing a mask, the ADA does have rules for businesses, including providing a reasonable alternative to letting you in the business without a mask. They can bring your order out to you, or you can find another location with a drive-thru.

But no one is required to serve you inside their business without a mask.
