Ilhan Omar was born in Somalia, came to America as a refugee and is now headed to Washington D.C. as a Congresswoman.

What better way to celebrate her incredible road than with a great photo?

Rep. Omar, (D) who came to the United States over twenty years ago as a refugee, won her congressional seat in her home state of Minnesota, as a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.

On Thursday, before being sworn into Congress, she shared a photo commemorating her arrival in the United States. In the photo Ilhan is seen walking with her father through the same airport in Washington D.C. where they arrived from Kenya after leaving a refugee camp over two decades ago.

She captioned the photo:

"23 years ago, from a refugee camp in Kenya, my father and I arrived at an airport in Washington DC. Today, we return to that same airport on the eve of my swearing in as the first Somali-American in Congress."

The picture spoke to many as the true embodiment of America.







Some were moved to tears.







And so another road on her journey begins.
