The assault took place outside of The Comedy Cellar in Manhattan.

Former Saturday Night Live star Chris Redd was released from a New York City hospital after allegedly being attacked on October 26 outside of the comedy club where he was to perform.

Redd had been taken to Bellevue Hospital where he received urgent care from medics for injuries to his face, which included a deep laceration to his nose.

According to the New York Police Department, a 37-year-old man was struck in the face "without prior conversation or provocation" at 9:40 p.m. outside the Comedy Cellar in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan.

The NYPD said the victim had driven up to the location and was charged by a man dressed as a security guard as he was exiting the vehicle.

The suspect had fled before the police arrived.

TMZ had obtained photos identifying the injured victim as the SNL actor. The images included droplets of blood from the attack on the steps leading down to the venue.

Witnesses told the media outlet that the culprit yanked off the Redd's Greg Yuna chain during the attack.

The cable link chain necklace came apart and fell on the street when the suspect snatched it.

Redd was able to retrieve the necklace after the attacker ran off, but only after being slugged in the face.

Police said no arrests have been made and the incident is an ongoing investigation.

The attack occurred days before the November 3 release of Redd's new HBO Max comedy special Why Am I Like This?

He shared his enthusiasm with a trailer from the show in an Instagram post, writing:

"14 years of hustle…countless amount of shows…years of running around doing dumb sh*t…and being *almost* scandal free all lead to this!!"

Redd had been an SNL cast member for five seasons and announced he was leaving the show ahead of its 48th season

“Being a part of ‘SNL’ has been the experience of a lifetime," he said in a statement.

"Five years ago, I walked into 30 Rock knowing that this was an amazing opportunity for growth. Now, with friends who have become family and memories I will cherish forever, I’m grateful to Lorne Michaels and to the entire ‘SNL’ organization."
"From the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank you all enough.”

During his time on the show, the comedian portrayed many notable figures, including New York City Mayor Eric Adams and actor Will Smith

He also shared an Emmy for helping to co-write “Come Back Barack," a song lamenting the White House departure of former Democratic President Barack Obama.
