Simone Biles Hilariously Apologizes For Calling 22-Year-Old Aly Raisman 'Grandma' In 2016

The 27-year-old gymnast jokingly reflected after the Olympic trials on how she called Raisman 'grandma' during the 2016 Rio Olympics when Raisman was just 22.

Gymnast Simone Biles apologized to her friend and two-time Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman for calling her "grandma" when Raisman was Biles' 2016 Rio Games team captain.

On Sunday, Biles made history by making her third U.S. Olympic women's gymnastics team after her dynamic floor performances at the Paris Olympic trials in Minneapolis that left even fan Taylor Swift raving.

At 27 years old, Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history with 37 Olympic and World Championship medals.

She is also the oldest female American gymnast to make an Olympic gymnastics team in 72 years.

Following her historical qualification for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, Biles fielded a question about her age, which prompted her apology for calling Raisman a granny when the now 32-year-old retired gymnast was only 22.

According to Gymnastics Now Biles said at a press conference:

“So now, I definitely have to apologize to Aly for calling her grandma because, whew, I feel like I’m way older now than me calling her grandma when we were younger."

She continued:

"And you know, it’s what 11 [p.m.]? So, it’s definitely past my bedtime, so I know Aly would be cracking up right now."

"But yeah, it’s crazy. I’m a lot older and more mature," Biles said of her wizened perspective and joked:

"What was the rest of the question? See, I’m forgetting,”

Fans thought Biles really stuck the landing with her cute apology.

Biles' friendship and rapport with Raisman was evident when Raisman took a clandestine payback photo in 2016 after Biles ribbed her.

Raisman shared a photo of Biles asleep on a flight while clutching a pillow and wrote:

"Miss @Simone_Biles fell asleep before we took off."
"WHO'S THE GRANDMA NOW GUYS."

Biles famously continued performing despite the pain from a rib injury during a gymnastics tour following the 2016 Olympics in Rio. She waited nearly three weeks until she sought medical assistance.

During the recent press conference, Biles talked about her current recovery process and how different her body feels compared to eight years ago.

“I definitely have to take care of recovery mentally, physically," said Biles.

"After Classics, I swore I couldn't walk. I was like hobbling to the plane, so that was exciting."
"After Championships, I felt a little bit better and after day one of Trials, I was actually surprised I could walk. So I was like, 'Woo, I'm actually not as sore, I'm not hurting.' "

She added:

"So it takes a big part. So recovery, I just have to take a little bit more serious."
"Back in Rio, I could do anything. I'd never needed tape, nothing. I was just like a little hamster on a wheel, always running.”
