George Santos Roasted After Sharing Tweet Comparing Him To Princess Diana

The GOP Rep. added a crown emoji while sharing the tweet after being arraigned on 13 federal counts.

Amid his fervent protestations of innocence on American soil, the embattled New York Republican Representative George Santos reportedly reached a discreet resolution regarding long-standing theft charges in Brazil.

This development has remained conspicuously absent from his active social media presence, however. Instead, Santos decided to quote tweet a message comparing him to...{checks notes}...the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Yes, Santos decided to share a tweet that drew a peculiar parallel between him and the iconic princess, adding a crown emoji to the quote tweet for good measure, further bewildering onlookers and leaving them questioning his judgment more than they already had.

You can see his tweet below.

Santos found himself arraigned in court on Wednesday, facing a barrage of serious allegations exposing his alleged fraudulent schemes and dishonesty that allowed him to rise to Congress and enrich himself.

The charges against him include seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of misappropriation of public funds, and two counts of making false statements of material fact to the House of Representatives.

Pleading not guilty to all charges, Santos is scheduled to make another appearance in court on June 30.

However, news emerged yesterday that Santos has purportedly struck a deal with Brazilian prosecutors to resolve the decade-old theft charges that had been haunting him.

The Washington Post disclosed that Santos entered into an agreement wherein he confessed to the charges and consented to pay restitution and fines. In exchange for his cooperation, Brazilian authorities agreed to drop the criminal case against him, thereby bringing the matter to a close.

But the notion that Santos would compare himself to an icon widely respected for her advocacy work on behalf of children, and those affected by cancer, mental illness, AIDS, and landmines boggled the mind.

People questioned the comparison.

People did not hold back.

Even before the criminal charges came to light, many of Santos' fellow New York Republicans called for his resignation due to his history of fabrications. In the wake of the indictment, the calls for his resignation grew louder.

However, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has shown no inclination to reprimand or sideline the freshman New York Republican. McCarthy's stance was made evident as he indicated Santos would be permitted to retain his congressional seat, even in the wake of his indictment on federal charges.
