Samantha Bee Encourages the NRA to Join Scientology Instead in a PSA Video

With no progress being made on gun reform beyond the proverbial "thoughts and prayers" in the wake of the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting, Full Frontal's Samantha Bee addressed the National Rifle Association in a new PSA video, urging them to break away from the NRA and join Scientology instead.

"Guns don't kill political careers, the NRA does," Bee said, referring to the amount of NRA's ad spending intimidating lawmakers.

The host's epiphany of both groups being cultish was inspired by a comment made by former NRA Executive Vice President J. Warren Cassidy's statement from January 2016, who said that the association is like a religion. Bee couldn't agree more.

"Yes, the NRA is like a religion. Specifically, the best religion – Scientology," she said.

Bee supported her logic by stating the fact that both groups are cults anyway.

Both of these cults are based on fanciful myths that when repeated enough, their otherwise intelligent followers start to believe. One says that 75 million years ago, an intergalactic warlord nuked billions of people in volcanoes. And then there's the really crazy myth that guns have nothing to do with gun violence.

She added that both organizations have delusions of grandeur and also hate the press, so why not unite for a common cause?

Both of these messianic cults push the narrative that only they can save the world. But if you join them, you can share in their power – they'll make you a superhero, whether that means healing the sick with your mind or making a kill shot on a mass murder despite being unable to even hit the toilet bowl when you're taking a leak. And the only thing you need to do get that awesome power is to keep buying things from them.

So she encouraged the NRA to team up with L. Ron Hubbard's notorious religious program.

"Scientology can fill all the holes in your soul that the NRA currently does," explained Bee. "It will bless you with fear, power fantasies, a creepily ageless leader and merch."

"Is Scientology safe?" she asked in the PSA. "Of course not. It's bonkers."

"But it's safer for the rest of us," she assured.

You can watch the clip of Bee drawing comparisons between the two groups in the video below.

The manosphere is defined as a "varied collection of websites, blogs, podcasts, and online forums by men and for men often promoting masculinity, misogyny, and opposition to feminism. Communities within it include men's rights activists, incels, Men Going Their Own Way, pick-up artists, and fathers' rights groups."
