President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, is once again sticking his foot in his mouth.
Giuliani wrote an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal entitled "The Case for Impeachment Defense," in which he attempts to defend his client from the ongoing impeachment inquiry against him.
Giuliani hits many of his oft-repeated talking points during the piece:
- House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) held secretive closed-door depositions
- the so-called fake news media had wrongly painted Trump as guilty
- Trump only wanted to focus on corruption when he asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate his political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden.
But it's one line in particular that's getting ridiculed online:
"The focus was on Ukrainian corruption broadly speaking and out of a five-page transcript Mr. Trump spent only six lines on Joe Biden."
While brevity may be the soul of wit, it's not a solid defense.
It only takes one question or one request for Trump to have solicited a foreign power to influence a U.S. election by investigating his potential 2020 opponent.
People didn't hesitate to put Giuliani through the wringer.
Once again, Giuliani showed that—as a lawyer—his skills seem lacking.
Public impeachment hearings into the President's actions began today. Rudy's gonna need a better defense.
