It's safe to say that most people in the entertainment industry aren't fans of President Donald Trump.

Though Trump has made numerous cameos in a vast array of Hollywood movies, his supporters find it easy to absolve him decades' worth of shoulder-rubbing with so-called Hollywood elites.

But Academy Award winning director and former child star Ron Howard gave some insight into what Hollywood entertainers have known about Trump since long before he began his 2016 campaign for President.

One of Trump's supporters asked Howard on Twitter why denizens of Hollywood can't stand Trump.

Howard didn't hold back.

Trump supporters soon pounced on Howard's critiques, sending "Opie"—a young Howard's character in the 1960 series The Andy Griffith Show—to the top of Twitter's trending list.

But many leapt to his defense.

Denizens of the entertainment industry aren't the only ones who have long known of Trump's character.

Those from Trump's native New York frequently point out that Trump has always been...well, Trump.

Many high-profile people from nearly every industry in the United States have come out against Trump, but so far, the willing suspension of disbelief his supporters have maintained to preserve a heroic image of him seems all but impermeable.

Ron Howard's early directorial effort Willow is available here.
