Rolling Stone's new list of the 200 greatest singers of all time is out and includes vocal icons such as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke and Billie Holiday.
Rolling Stonedid preface the list by stating:
"Before you start scrolling (and commenting), keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List."
"Talent is impressive; genius is transcendent."
"Sure, many of the people here were born with massive pipes, perfect pitch, and boundless range. Others have rougher, stranger, or more delicate instruments."
They finished:
"In all cases, what mattered most to us was originality, influence, the depth of an artist's catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy."
"A voice can be gorgeous like Mariah Carey's, rugged like Toots Hibbert's, understated like Willie Nelson's, slippery and sumptuous like D'Angelo's, or bracing like Bob Dylan's."
"But in the end, the singers behind it are here for one reason: They can remake the world just by opening their mouths."
Fans of five-time Grammy winner Celine Dion—who was not on the list—were outraged and took to Twitter to let it be known.
“Celine Dion should be on this list. Full stop.”— jann arden (@jann arden) 1672632834
“I’ve never seen an entire list get invalidated on one omission so quickly in my life.”— Robert Daniels (@Robert Daniels) 1672614109
“Respectfully, not including Celine Dion, arguably the best vocal technician of all time, in this list is borderline treasonous”— Jamie Lambert (@Jamie Lambert) 1672637165
“Dear @RollingStone. This is Céline Dion.

Leaving her off your Top 200 Greatest Singers of All Time list has to be an honest and regrettable mistake… because doing it intentionally would be criminal.

So… please fix it.”— Bonnie Bernstein (@Bonnie Bernstein) 1672627066
“@PopBase Imagine not putting the greatest singer of all time in your top 200”— Pop Base (@Pop Base) 1672594887
“Celine Dion was excluded from Rolling Stones' 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. The disrespect. 😡”— br0s (@br0s) 1672805445
“Celine Dion was not included on Rolling Stone’s list of the greatest singers of all time. Taylor Swift was.”— chris evans (@chris evans) 1672610420
“Celine Dion trending after Rolling Stone disrespected this voice? Her legendary vocals will outlast your silly magazine.

https://t.co/1vfTtuEgoY”— celine vocals (@celine vocals) 1672693542
“Rihanna should not even be on that Rolling Stones list of Greatest Singers. But for her to also be ahead of Michael Jackson, Usher, Anita Baker, and Patti Labelle… then Celine Dion is not even on the list? I would like criminal charges brought against the entire company.”— Childless Gambino (@Childless Gambino) 1672641141

“Celine Dion absolutely not included in The Rolling Stones list just makes it absolutely irrelevant and a joke at this point. Celine is one of best singers the world has ever witnessed!. This is disrespect beyond!!!!.”— TheeXtinaBoy (@TheeXtinaBoy) 1672684832
Dion recently shared on Instagram she rescheduled her upcoming spring shows to 2024 and canceled eight of her summer shows as she deals with health problems.
Dion was diagnosed with rare progressive neurological disorder Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) which affects muscles and heightens sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional distress.
Along with her Grammys, The Power of Love singer has 12 World Music Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, six American Music Awards and many many others.
We'd say her fans have every right to be up in arms.
