Memorial Day is the day that people of the United States commemorate the lives of American military members who have died in service to their country.

But with the Republican Party eager to heap adoration upon President Donald Trump, it's beginning to adopt his ways as well, including his more avaricious qualities.

This was on full display in the Republican National Committee's Memorial Day tweet letting Republicans know of a huge sale for the President's "best supporters."

The ad read:

"#MemorialDay is an important day for Americans & Pres. Trump wanted to do something extra special for his best supporters, like YOU."

The tweet was met with widespread mockery—with people accusing the RNC of using Memorial Day for a profit.

The tweet revealed a lot about the GOP...even to some of its voters.

But the GOP was only following Trump's lead.

The President received backlash for tweeting "Happy Memorial Day" on the somber occasion, as well as insulting Congressman Conor Lamb (D-PA)—a former Marine—on Twitter. He also used a Memorial Day address to trash his critics, like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

For contrast, Trump's likely opponent in the 2020 election—former Vice President Joe Biden—wore a mask while laying a wreath on a veterans' memorial near his home.
