Raven-Symoné Reveals Disney Forced Her To Always Wear Heels For Heartbreaking Reason

The former Disney Channel star revealed on The Unplanned Podcast why her characters always wore high heels—and it wasn't to be fashionable.

If you grew up in the '90s or early 2000s, you were likely one of three kids: a Cartoon Network kid, a Nickelodeon kid, or a Disney kid.

In the past year, the Nickelodeon kids have really been going through it as they discover the shows they're nostalgic for might not be as bright and airy as they seemed. The characters they loved may not have been that happy, and living the life of an actor may have not been as cool as they thought.

Now, it's the Disney kids' turn, starting with Raven-Symoné's story from her time on the show That's So Raven.

Quirky, loud, and imaginative, fans loved Raven's fun personality as well as her obvious fashion sense, including the high heels she wore with every outfit throughout her middle school and high school years on the show.

But Raven-Symoné just revealed on The Unplanned Podcast the real reason she had to wear heels, and it wasn't because of her character's fashion sense.

"There's an understanding that if you're short and you wear heels, it thins you out. 'Cause if you look taller, the proportions work out."
"Behind the scenes, my team, and I'm sure, conversations, always led to me wearing heels."
"When you look at 'That's So Raven,' every single outfit had heels. I would be wearing heels and pajamas sometimes, just because it makes you look thinner."

When asked what she "wished her team had said" about her weight and appearance, Raven-Symoné confided:

"I wish they would've just not said anything."
"It was a different time period. Nobody was my size at that time."

It's easy to forget the hard work that goes into creating films and TV shows. After all, they are meant to lead us to suspend our disbelief, and when they're done well, we lose ourselves in the stories and develop feelings for our favorite characters.

Behind all of that magic is the hard work of the actors who have to learn their lines, dress a certain way, and behave a certain way to pull off these stories, and quite heartbreakingly, sometimes that's much more of a sacrifice than we ever would have asked from them ourselves.
