Criticism of Republican Caitlyn Jenner's run for Governor during the upcoming recall election has been piling up.

After Jenner, a transgender woman, spoke out against rights for trans teens, much of the LGBTQ+ community lashed out at her on Twitter.

Now, U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe has spoken out against Jenner with a statement saying:

"You were an exceptional athlete. You're not an exceptional politician."

Rapinoe went on to comment on the nature of politics:

"It takes a ton of skill and institutional knowledge. Those people are talented politicians. I think people need to think of it that way. They actually have a talent for doing the politicking.
"I love talking about politics from my perspective, from my lane. I honestly think It's become too much of a popularity [contest]."

Rapinoe concluded Jenner, though extremely talented, wasn't the best person to represent the LGBTQ+ community—or anyone else—in Sacramento.

"I probably could be a representative of some kind, win a district here or there, but am I really the best person to be doing that? Maybe I can just talk about the person who is actually the best person to be doing that."

Jenner has continued to follow the Republican party line, saying trans teenage girls must be kept out of their own gender's sports to protect other girls, an issue with almost no basis in fact.

The NCAA, most state athletic associations and the Olympics all have existing trans athlete policies based on reality, not fear, misinformation and transphobia.
