Priyanka Chopra Jonas admitted she fell into a "deep depression" after a nose surgery unexpectedly altered her appearance.
The Citadel star opened up on The Howard Stern Show, telling the host that she had a necessary operation to remove a polyp in her nasal cavity, but the results left her in a dark place.
"This thing happens, and my face looks completely different, and I went into a deep, deep depression."
Chopra Jonas revealed she was fired from three different movies and felt as though her career "was over before it started."
She disclosed to Stern that she got to the point where she wasn't even leaving her house.
But, as awful as her first surgery was, her father convinced her to get reconstructive surgery.
"I was terrified of that, but he was like, 'I will be in the room with you.'"
"He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence."

While many on social media acknowledged Chopra Jonas' beauty, they shared disappointment that Hollywood values looks so much that one's nose could cost them jobs and affect their mental health.
“@MaryAnnDancer That's sad. I'm sure this is especially true for women in that industry. There is so much emphasis on looks.”— Melanie (@Melanie) 1683210838
“@Imagecaptured The camera can be unkind to your career if your face isn’t PERFECT.
I learned that in my apprenticeship at a film house. They had to cut every scene I was in, because of uneven features and a slightly crossed eye.”— Melanie (@Melanie) 1683210838
“@Imagecaptured It's sort of unbelievable that she lost 3 films due to her "botched" nose that looks beautiful to me from the photos shown. Not a lot of empathy in these comments, but the importance of image in Hollywood is on another level, especially for women, & I cant imagine the pressure”— Melanie (@Melanie) 1683210838
“@Imagecaptured It’s because of the competition in that business.”— Melanie (@Melanie) 1683210838
“@TMZ This girl is drop dead gorgeous and still so insecure. It never ends. The need for perfection. IT'S OKAY! STOP BEING SO HARD ON YOURSELVES, LADIES!”— TMZ (@TMZ) 1683206540
“@TMZ Self image and body dysmorphia can be a huge blow to mental health. Taking a risk of getting a rhinoplasty and it going wrong I imagine would be very difficult to live with. Of course there are bigger problems, but it doesn’t surprise me so many are quick to lack any empathy.”— TMZ (@TMZ) 1683206540
“@Imagecaptured they get around a culture, friends and people that almost guaranteed tell them" you won't be relevant if you don't do this" and many other things of that nature. but it seems to be a high percentage of people who become actrors and actresses get some work done in some way.”— Melanie (@Melanie) 1683210838
Chopra Jonas also discussed the surgery and its aftermath in her 2021 memoir Unfinished.
She revealed that in the summer of 2001, not long after being crowed Miss World 2000, she suffered what she thought was a head cold that wouldn't subside.
Due to difficulty breathing, she visited a doctor who discovered a polyp that needed to be removed.
"While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed."
"When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified."
"My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. It wasn't me anymore."
But after reconstructive surgery, Chopra Jonas eventually "made peace."
"While it took a few years of seeing a stranger gazing back at me every time I looked in the mirror, I've gotten accustomed to this face."
"Now when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised; I've made peace with this slightly different me."
"This is my face. This is my body. I might be flawed, but I am me."
