Fans Overjoyed After 'Power Rangers' Series Confirms Ranger Is Queer In History-Making First

Fans Overjoyed After 'Power Rangers' Series Confirms Ranger Is Queer In History-Making First
Entertainment One/Nickelodeon

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR POWER RANGERS DINO FURY

The Power Rangers TV show is making history in an upcoming episode and introducing the first Ranger that's also an out-and-proud member of the LGBTQ+ community.

As fans of the long-running action franchise await its return from hiatus, other countries are already seeing episodes of the international release of Power Rangers Dino Fury. In episode 13, appropriately titled "The Matchmaker", it's revealed Izzy the Green Ranger is queer.

Clips of the scene from the French release have been going around online.

The episode sees another ranger try to set Izzy up on a date, but as per the Power Rangers formula, a monster attacks and makes things worse.

At the end of the episode, Izzy is seen planning a date with her former rival Fern, as the two walk off holding hands.

Many fans of the Rangers couldn't believe it.

While Izzy is the first queer ranger in the TV show, she isn't the first queer ranger in history.

The 2017 film adaption had its version of the Yellow Ranger, Trini Kwan, coming to terms with her sexuality over the course of the movie. And the officially licensed comic book series produced by BOOM! Studios introduced Ellarien, the Pink Solar Ranger, who shared her powers with her girlfriend Remi.

For such a popular and long running series, it's a little slow, but progress is being made.

Not everyone was convinced, however.

It's been long prevalent in news and media reporting that romantic relationships between women are downplayed to just being really good friends or "gal pals."

However, rest assured this is not the case here, no matter what some fans want to believe.

Power Rangers Dino Fury is currently on hiatus in the United States, with the first half of the season premiering on Nickelodeon at the start of the year and the second half resuming later this month.

It's also available on Netflix, though you'll have to wait a little longer to see this iconic moment if you decide to wait for the new episodes to show up there.
