Two or three days ago I was hanging out with a friend I met through my future husband. He confessed some personal stuff to me before the rest of our friends showed up. At the end of the conversation I asked him why he opted to tell me as opposed to anyone else in our friend group. His response:
"You're the kidneys."
After I gave him the people's eyebrow, he elaborated and told me that he thinks of our group of friends as a body. According to him I'm always the heart (aw!), but most of the time I'm the kidneys too - meaning that I'm the one who processes the negativity and purifies or re-frames it so that it can't hurt or poison the people that I love.
Yeah, I never thought being called a squishy internal organ would make me all misty-eyed, but there you go.

Grab some tissues, we're going riding on the feels train.
Grading Papers
Way back in high school. I won an award, and my English teacher comes over to congratulate me. As we're making small talk, he says "I like your writing. I really do. When I'm grading papers, I'll stick yours some where in the middle. When I get to it, it gives me just the pick-me-up I need to keep going."
A Bright Light
Back when I was a teen and in the middle of a really bad depression spell (depression kinda comes and goes for me, it'll be here for a few years, gone and then back with a vengeance) I was having a really bad night and my dad kinda knew. So he stopped in before going to bed and asked what was up and I told him that I couldn't do it, that I wasn't strong enough. I just didn't have it in me. He just grabbed me and told/begged me that I could, I was tough and just to take it one day at a time.
You're such a bright light. The world will be darker if you leave, I know for a fact that my life will be so much darker. So please, one step at a time. You can do this.
So now whenever I'm sad or my sick brain is beating me up I remember that I'm a bright light to at least 1 person.
The Christmas Pear
I was complaining about being pear-shaped and my husband said, "But honey, you're the hand-picked, gold-wrapped pear on top of the Christmas fruit basket that everybody fights over."
Compliments From Kids Are The Best
I had a young girl come up to me one day in my neighborhood, probably around 5 years old, and tell me I'm pretty. I don't see myself as that attractive, and rarely get compliments on my appearance in real life. This was around 4 years ago and it's stuck with me ever since.
You Turned Out To Be...
I was talking to my grandfather the other day and playing with my 5 year old niece. He just looked at me and said "You turned out to be a really good person." Made me want to cry.
An Excellent Mother
I took my two kids out to breakfast. They were being silly and playing nicely. A random woman walked over and I assumed she was going to say they were cute (because they are). However she was coming over to tell me that I am an excellent mother. I almost cried because I don't always feel like an excellent mother. I really appreciated her comment because I needed it right then.

Celebration Of Life
After a funeral service, the widow of the deceased stopped by the organ console before proceeding to the cemetery.
She said, "I want to thank you for your uplifting music. You turned my husband's funeral service into a celebration of his life instead of a mournful occasion."
Great and Grateful
I used to stick up for a gay guy who was bullied at my job. When he quit, he gave me a card that said "If it weren't for great people like you, there wouldn't be grateful people like me".
I'll never forget it.
Bankruptcy
"At least we have each other"
My wife, my then-girlfriend, an hour after I filed bankruptcy and lost everything I had.
