Some years ago, I had the pleasure of attending a concert with a couple of friends. The music was incredible. The vibe was awesome. We all lost ourselves in the music. I met a couple of really nice people and we just danced all night. When I look back on the night, I remember myself as rather carefree. There's a photo of me looking very much in my element, too, glowsticks in hand. It was one of my happiest experiences, and certainly, one that defined my early 20s.
People had their own stories to share after Redditor Jackiung asked the online community,
"What has been the happiest moment of your life that was totally unexpected?"
"I was driving to Las Vegas..."
"I was driving to Las Vegas, and I wanted to stop to get McDonald's breakfast. Based on the clock, and the distance to the next exit, I wasn't going to get there before 10:30 (this was before they did all-day breakfast). Bummer.
And then, I crossed a time zone, and the clock in my car went back one hour, leaving me plenty of time to get the delicious sausage biscuit that I thought I had been denied."
Hey, that's something. And it's truly the little things.
"When my parents..."
"When my parents got me a puppy. I got back from school and they told me that they have kept my toys in another room and to go get them. Got a nice surprise when I got to the room. The happiest moment of my life. Miss him. RIP Rudy."
Rudy was clearly a good boy! How awesome!
"He has since..."
"I lived somewhere that did not allow dogs. Found a stray dog on the street, FELL IN LOVE, and snuck him in. Had to move to keep him and it was the best 12 years of my life. He has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge but finding him that day was the happiest day of my life."
TELL ME YOUR SECRETS.

"It was a thrilling..."
"It was a thrilling (perhaps transcendental) experience to sing Gregorian chant with a superb monastic chant choir."

"I am dealing with PTSD..."
"I am dealing with PTSD from the abuse I suffered as a child and from losing my oldest daughter to a genetic disorder at six days old. My older daughter needs glasses and just picked out her first pair. She picked out ones that are similar to mine because she wants to look like me. I struggle with the fact I look like my abuser. It is so healing that my kids have none of that. They love me and want to look like me because they want to share that bond. I never think it's bad they look like me, and yet I hate looking like my mom. I don't hate any of the features my kids share with her because I don't see them as her.
I am a work in progress, but the fact that my kids want to be like me really made me happy when I have been feeling down. What would have been my older daughter's 10th birthday is coming up and I am having a hard time with it. Therapy helps. I have good support. It is just one of those things that will always hurt and big anniversaries are harder."
"The happiest I've been..."
"The happiest I've been after a total surprise was when my boyfriend took me to the beach and said he had the day planned for us. We walked to the top of a hill and he guided me to a sign with my name on it. It had pictures of us and a note that said: "Read Me." I read the note. At the end, it instructed me to turn around. I did and I saw him on his knee, with our moms coming up behind him. He said, "[Insert name], I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"
I've never met anyone called [insert name]! How interesting!
Do you get asked about it all the time?
(I suck.)
"Her response..."
"Told my girlfriend about my depression, which was something I've been dealing with for a while. Her response was so positive and awesome that it made me feel like crying. She said that I could come to her about anything and told me that it sucks that I'm dealing with it, and told me that she'll be there for me whenever I needed her."
"When my online friend..."
"When my online friend kissed me 24 hours after meeting me (sex the day after). We've been married for 5 years now."
Well, well, well... love was in the air. Congrats!
"I totally expected..."
"When I passed my last and hardest exam at the final semester at university. I totally expected that I would fail so it was such a sweet surprise."
