Smith took to Instagram to thank Swift for mentioning her in the title track of her new album 'The Tortured Poets Department' along with Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.

Taylor Swift's new album The Tortured Poets Department is loaded with iconic name drops from Clara Bow to Dylan Thomas, Boygenius' Lucy Dacus to Jack Antonoff, and Stevie Nicks to Charlie Puth.

In the album's title track, Swift mentions legend Patti Smith who, in return, gave the 14-time Grammy winner a massive shout-out on social media.

In "The Tortured Poets Department," Swift sings the line:

"I laughed in your face and said, 'You're not Dylan Thomas / I’m not Patti Smith / This ain't the Chelsea Hotel / We're modern idiots.'"

On Friday, the same day as the album's release, Smith took to Instagram to express her gratitude.

The "Gloria" singer shared two black and white photos of herself enjoying Dylan Thomas' Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog.

She captioned the post:

"This is saying I was moved to be mentioned in the company of the great Welsh poet Dylan Thomas."
"Thank you Taylor."

Fans of both stars loved seeing the great Patti Smith not only recognize but also extend her thanks to Swift.

Smith previously sang Swift's praises in 2019, telling the New York Times:

"She's a pop star who's under tremendous scrutiny all the time, and one can't imagine what that's like."
"It's unbelievable to not be able to go anywhere, do anything, have messy hair. And I'm sure that she's trying to do something good."
“She's not trying to do something bad. And if it influences some of her avid fans to open up their thoughts, what does it matter?"

The grandchildren of silent film star Clara Bow also spoke out after hearing Swift's song titled "Clara Bow."

They told People they got "chills" after listening.

“It poetically draws parallels between Clara Bow and Taylor."

The family also added they hope the song "inspires the younger generation to learn about Clara’s story and feel inspired by her perseverance."
