People Explain Which Professions They Avoid Dating Altogether
Jan 11, 2025
When it comes to dating, most of us have an idea of the type of person we'd like to date, including certain physical attributes and interests.
But some of us go so far as to have workplace wish list items, including the professions we'd never consider dating.
Curious, Redditor Scary_Drawing8175 asked:
"Which is that one profession you'll never date?"
Night Life
"I would avoid people who work at bars and nightclubs. Just because their working hours would make it very difficult for me."
- hordrama
"They also tend to date each other as much as they tend bar."
- Fahernheit98
"It's hard to find anyone else to hang out with at 2:00 AM on Saturday or 10:00 AM on Wednesday, so bar staff dates other bar staff and at worst... regulars."
"Some people just like hanging out at the same place, but there is a certain kind of bar fly that works through half the bartenders in the block and they are always bats**t crazy in a sad way."
"I loved bartending and most of the people I work with, but it can be very isolating and a terrible influence on your life choices."
- FizzyBeverage
Film Industry
"If you are not in the film industry, DO NOT date someone who works in the industry."
- sucobe
"As a woman who works on set, I would never date a film dude, so I can confirm what you said."
- barely_human88
"Yeah the 16-hour work days, s**t pay, and zero job security aren’t very conducive to a good relationship. Part of the reason I got out."
- WildcardFriend
Geochronology
"Geochronologists."
"They'll date any old thing."
- Rockknocker
"Nice joke. I might even say, an oldie but a geody."
- frostking79
Multi-Level Marketing
"Someone who's in multi-level marketing."
- Immediate_Loan_1414
"Calling it a profession is a stretch."
- Lil-Miss-Anthropy
"You know, I know that, but they don't seem to."
- Immediate_Loan_1414
Founding Members
"Someone calling themselves CEO and Founder on LinkedIn. Exhausting."
- Spiritualnerdy
"Oh gosh, the worst person I know (by way of my husband’s family) is the CEO of like five 'companies' that were just Facebook Business pages, lol (laughing out loud)."
- BrasserieNight
Social Media Culture
"Social media 'influencers.' Cringe."
- Hen7aiisgood
"My biggest fear is that we'd get into an argument, and then I'd wake up to thousands of death threats from their followers."
- IpsoKinetikon
Putting Out Fires
"I'm a firefighter and honestly I can't blame anyone with what I've seen. I've never cheated, and only 'helped' someone else cheat once (I think), without knowing."
"These guys, literally all of them, simply can't believe that I've never cheated, that I value my dignity over physical gratification."
"We actually have a joke, that isn't really a joke, that you have to be divorced once to be a firefighter."
"Oddly enough, I am divorced, but only because I had a not-so-honest marriage in the army for the benefits. (It was technically and annulment, so there legally was no marriage or divorce, but firefighters aren't smart enough to know the difference anyway)."
- Smelliphant
Correctional Workers
"People talk about cops being sadistic and unhinged but they don’t have anything on correctional officers. They’re whack."
- Ok_Employment_6179
"My cousin married a correctional officer. He was insanely abusive. He would lock his son up in the bathroom and shut off the lights, because he was naughty and would not give him dinner. I swear to god, I wish I was making that up."
"My cousin has always dated questionable folk, but this one took the cake. They divorced, and he still tries to ruin her life, and he has a restraining order for his kids. He can not go near his children. Thank god, but that won't stop him to do s**t."
- celebral_x
The Legal Field
"I was always told to never date a lawyer or a police officer because if it ended badly, they could f**k up your life."
- MeGaManMaDeMe
"Can confirm. Especially a narcissistic lawyer who instead of having a conversation about breaking up, has a restraining order issued to remove you from their house and tear you out of your child’s life."
- DadsBigHonker
Flying High
"Pilots. I dated a pilot once. Like a big group of adult frat boys. They ALL cheated with hostesses. They were all self-inflated."
"But how would you know if someone’s a pilot, you might ask? Don’t worry. They’ll tell you. It will be the FIRST thing they tell you."
- Recent_Body_5784
"It will be the first thing they tell you makes me laugh! I care for a gentleman who used to be a pilot. He has dementia and can’t remember anything except he used to be a pilot. When we go out, he tells literally everyone we meet. He even told one man to ‘look him up’!!!"
- Thick-Advantage-6891
Medical Ego
"I met a neurologist on the bus yesterday. We just shuffled onto the bus, bumped into each other, apologized, and he said he was a neurologist."
"I don’t know what the connection to bumping into one another is to being a neurologist, but he seemed very expectant that I would ask him about it. I certainly wouldn't date him to find out more."
- docwrites
What's In The Cards
"Psychics. Talk about gaslighting. They're the masters of manipulation."
- brakenbonzey
"If someone told me they were a psychic, I would think they were joking. Gaslighting aside, I would find them too ridiculous to take seriously."
- ReorientRecluse
Any Of The Bros
"Finance bros or life coaches."
- butteronmywindowsill
"Oh please, if they fall within the stereotypical 'bro' categories, then I'm out."
"I'm leaning lesbian after a thousand hot girls there's a hot boy but never have they been one of those, nor gym bros, tech bros, I'm not into those bragging hard. And the bigotry in many of these boys is as hard as the average bigotry of individuals of the upcoming US admin."
- Mtfdurian
Future Dental Work
"Probably a dentist. I’m not ready for someone who can look at me and instantly think, 'Yikes, your gums are in trouble.'"
- Historical-Change286
"I have a crush on a dental hygienist and I’m pretty sure she feels the same way about me, but I don’t think I could. I don’t floss as much as I should."
- AdvisorMaleficent979
No Vacation Ever
"Anyone who can't 'turn off' their profession. Politicians, popo, jailers, comedians, pilots, magicians, chefs, psychologists, bartenders, firefighters."
"The undatable ones all have it in common. They can't turn it off. Not during a family gathering, dinner, sex, travel, while reading a book. Their entire life IS their profession. That is what makes them unbalanced, unhealthy, and miserable to be around."
- FoamboardDinosaur
While a person can't necessarily be deemed as undateable by their profession alone, it's valid that there are some professions that a person would find incompatible with their lifestyle and interests. If two people can't agree on those things, regardless of the profession, the relationship won't last.

Greenland Official Rips Don Jr.'s 'Staged' Visit, Says Trump Was Flipped Off By Locals
Jan 10, 2025
Pipaluk Lynge-Rasmussen, a member of Greenland's parliament, called out the "staged" nature of Donald Trump Jr.'s visit to the island territory, even reporting that he and his entourage were flipped off by locals at the airport.
Lynge, who stressed that Greenland wants “our own independence and democracy” and not be beholden to the U.S., spoke after President-elect Donald Trump’s eldest son flew to Greenland and met with locals he claimed are supportive of the U.S. taking it over.
Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, alongside the Faroe Islands, the only other autonomous territory within the Kingdom. Citizens of both Greenland and the Faroe Islands are full citizens of Denmark. As one of the Overseas Countries and Territories of the European Union, Greenland’s citizens are also recognized as EU citizens.
Although geographically part of the North American continent, Greenland has maintained strong political and cultural ties to Europe—specifically to Norway and Denmark, its historical colonial powers—for over a millennium.
The United States has long recognized Greenland's strategic importance. In 1946, the U.S. even proposed purchasing Greenland from Denmark, offering $100 million in gold as part of the deal—and while that never panned out, the world is nervously watching the president-elect since he voiced his desire for territorial expansion, calling "the ownership and control of Greenland" an "absolute necessity."
But Lynge described Trump Jr.'s visit as little more than a stunt. Local media reported that Trump Jr.'s entourage distributed MAGA hats to residents during the visit. Video footage from the trip also showed him speaking to cap-wearing Greenlanders over speakerphone during a lunch event.
She said:
“No journalists were allowed to interview him. It was all staged to make it seem like we — the Greenlandic people — were MAGA and love to be a part of the USA."
And she noted that not everyone received Trump Jr. so warmly:
“People were curious, but some took pictures giving him [the] finger at the airport … Some wrote on Facebook: yankee go home."
But you wouldn't know that based on how Trump Jr. portrayed his own visit, sharing a photo of himself flanked by MAGA cap-wearing Greenlanders holding the American flag:
"Greenland loves America and Trump!!! Incredible people with an equally awesome reception. They just want to be able to utilize some of the incredible resources that they have and allow themselves, their country, and their kids to flourish."
You can see his post below.

Trump Jr. also went further, sharing photos on Instagram, saying "so many people excited about our visit, especially the youth. They love America and Trump."
You can see his post below.
But according to Danish news outlet DR News, sources revealed that the individuals wearing new MAGA hats during the visit were homeless and socially disadvantaged people who had been offered dinners at Hotel Hans Egede in exchange for their participation. DR News also reported that others were able to identify specific individuals who traded their support for a meal at the hotel.
No one was surprised that Trump Jr.'s visit was really just a Trumpy publicity stunt.
Earlier this week, President-elect Trump stated that he would not rule out the use of military force to take control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, asserting that U.S. control of both territories was crucial for American national security.
Trump left the possibility open, stating:
“I’m not going to commit to that. It might be that you’ll have to do something. The Panama Canal is vital to our country. We need Greenland for national security purposes.”
Last month, Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede said "Greenland is ours" and "not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom."
Moreover, the Panama Canal has been under Panama's exclusive control for over 25 years. The United States transferred the Panama Canal Zone back to the country in 1979 and concluded its joint management of the vital waterway in 1999.

Pam Anderson 'Almost Got Killed On A Plane' After Man Mistook Her For Member Of The Chicks
Jan 10, 2025
Actor Pamela Anderson talked recently in a podcast about a harrowing encounter on an plane back in the 2000s.
Anderson, talking with the Happy Sad Confused podcast at the 92Y venue in NYC, concluded nearly an hour of conversation with a harrowing story of political obsession and mistaken identity that had her terrified in her seat of a plane.
The actor shared:
“This one time, I was on a flight and this guy came up to me and said, ‘Do you know what this country’s done for you?.'"
"And I was like, ‘Oh, my God. What have I done?’ I looked back and he was [angry]. Then this stewardess had to handcuff him to the chair because he was trying to attack me."
"Ended up he thought I was a Dixie Chick. Remember that whole Dixie Chick thing? I almost got killed on a plane. I was scared to fly after that, a little bit.”
Anderson was at a peak of pop culture popularity, which collided with the nadir of the (then) Dixie Chicks. The group became the Chicks after their nationwide shunning and defamation for saying they were against the Iraq War during the Bush administration. So it was no wonder that Anderson felt threatened.
You can hear her story here.
- YouTubeyoutu.be
People thought that it was good for us to remember that era, and provided useful context for the event.
Folks were not impressed with the guy who caused Anderson to fear for her life.
Some people wondered if this was the inciting factor for Anderson to get a crew of impressive body guards, though many people replied that she had made her own enemies at the time without being mistaken for someone else.
from entertainment
The interview was a discussion of Anderson's career, and folks were impressed at how much of a life—often negative, to be fair—she has lived.
As happens now with every video and photo published of Anderson, who deliberately does not wear any makeup, people had some thoughts.
Imagine the stories if she were given more time to tell them.
Anderson can be seen most recently in The Last Showgirl.

LA Real Estate Investor Sparks Debate With Offer To Pay 'Private Firefighters' To Save His Home
Jan 10, 2025
A Los Angeles businessman sparked backlash by writing a post on his now-deleted X (formerly Twitter) account offering to pay private firefighters "any amount" to save his mansion in the Pacific Palisades amid the raging LA wildfires.
On January 7, Keith Wasserman, a real estate executive and co-founder of Gelt Venture Partners, asked:
“Does anyone have access to private firefighters to protect our home in Pacific Palisades? Need to act fast here. All neighbors houses burning."
The message concluded with:
"Will pay any amount. Thank you."
Here is a screenshot of Wasserman's post from his deleted account shared by X user @DogRightGirl, who expressed:
"The disconnect is jaw dropping. Just wow."
@DogRightGirl/X
The user followed up with confirmation that Wasserman peace'd out from the platform after causing outrage for being completely "tone-deaf" by potentially redirecting additional firefighting efforts away from devastated areas.
Before deactivating his account, Wasserman allegedly retaliated by calling his critics, "trolls!" and clarified he had evacuated from the Palisades.
His final tweet read, “Mama, I’m going viral!”
People thought the wealthy entrepreneur's entitled plea was, well, rich.
However, some argued that Wasserman's request was justified if he had the means to access the private firefighting protection service.
In 2019, affluent Californians had the privilege of being offered “on-call” wildfire protection from private firefighting companies as the number of fires in the state increasingly threatened expensive homes, according to the New York Post.
Private firefighting crews were historically hired by government agencies like the National Forest Service to fight wildfires. However, some firms in recent years have begun seeking business opportunities to extend protection services to wealthy homeowners.
The Palisades fire started on Tuesday morning due to a combination of California's ongoing drought, low humidity, and Santa Ana winds that blew up to 100 m.p.h. within several hours.
Tens of thousands of residents in Los Angeles County were forced to evacuate. Thousands remain under evacuation orders while several thousand more remain under evacuation warnings, according to LA County Sheriff Robert Luna.
By Thursday, more than 1,000 structures were destroyed by the conflagration that ravaged through 20,000 acres.

Video Of LA Police Officer Still Giving Out Parking Tickets Despite Wildfires Divides Social Media
Jan 10, 2025
Thousands of Los Angeles County residents have been forced to evacuate to avoid toxic air inhalation and the encroaching wildfires that have destroyed more than a thousand homes and businesses across the region.
So far, five people have lost their lives. Two of the largest active fires, the Pacific Palisades and the Eaton fires, remain designated 0% containment zones as firefighters continue efforts to extinguish raging flames.
Various news coverage showed gridlocked traffic and abandoned vehicles being bulldozed to clear the way for fire trucks in the nightmarish hellscape against a backdrop of conflagrations caused by low humidity and spread by the fierce Santa Ana winds that have continued fanning blazes since Tuesday.
But one clip of a street scene had social media users baffled.
The polarizing viral video showed a Santa Monica parking warden issuing a parking violation ticket while a cloud of smoke from a nearby fire was seen billowing behind houses on a residential street.
On Wednesday, the X (formerly Twitter) account for Open Source Intel shared the video and captioned it with:
"Santa Monica is burning, but hey, at least Santa Monica is making some money from parking tickets. Priorities."
The ongoing crisis hasn't deterred this LA parking enforcer from patrolling the area to hand out citations.
While his dedication in another scenario could be viewed as commendable, social media users rolled their eyes.
Some scoffed at the city for prioritizing levying fines amid the natural disaster.
Others played the devil's advocate and pointed out possible logistics to legitimize what was happening in the clip.
City Manager David White signed an emergency order, which includes a curfew from sunset to sunrise in mandatory evacuation order zones to support law enforcement efforts in designated areas in response to the nearby Pacific Palisades fire.
In a statement, White said in part:
“The local emergency order provides Santa Monica Police and our mutual aid partners another tool to continue to protect our community."
"Our first responders are out patrolling, staying vigilant and coordinating with our partners throughout this emergency on all fronts.”
Parts of the emergency order include the "prohibition of construction activities in evacuation areas" and the "suspension of preferential parking rules and enforcement for residents."
