Devin Nunes, the Republican Representative for California's 22nd congressional district, compared the Democratic Party to Soviet Russia and the Chinese Communist Party during a Fox News appearance.

The GOP Congressman was a staunch defender of former President Donald Trump during the Justice Department's investigation into Russian collusion during the 2016 presidential election.

He said:

"The Democrat Party is a socialist party, set up similar to the Chinese Communist Party, or the old Soviet Union or even Russia today where you have a politburo style system."

You can see his remarks here:

The California Congressman had responded to a question regarding Twitter suing Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Twitter claimed Paxton used his office in retaliation against the social media platform for permanently suspending Trump's Twitter account after Trump used social media to spread lies and incite the deadly U.S. Capitol siege.

The Soviet Union, or officially known as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), was a federal communist Marxist state that existed from 1922 to 1991.

Vladimir Lenin served as Soviet Russia's head of government from 1917 to 1924 and of the USSR from 1922 to 1924 before Joseph Stalin took over and rose to power. Stalin is infamous for being responsible for the deaths of millions under his totalitarian government.

Nunes' "alternative facts" version of history was slammed on social media.

Nunes previously compared Democrats to "weirdStar Wars freaks" for identifying themselves as members of "the resistance" while under the Trump Administration.

On Fox's Hannity show, Nunes cited an MSNBC clip of PBS White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor, who said a friend compared then President-elect Joe Biden's cabinet picks to members of the superhero group, The Avengers.

He told guest host, GOP congressman Jason Chaffetz:

"These guys really spend too much time watching Hollywood movies from that clip you played earlier. Remember, for the last four years it's been 'resistance.' It's like they're some kind of weird Star Wars freaks that had watched too many Star Wars movies."
"Now they're calling themselves The Avengers. The reality here is that these are people that are so dirty that they likely were involved in the dirty dossier itself."

In January 2021, Trump awarded Nunes with the nation's highest civilian honor—the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
