Nintendo announced that Charles Martinet, who has voiced the titular video game character since 'Super Mario 64,' would be transitioning to Mario Ambassador.

Endings are sometime bittersweet, as Mario fans around the world learned recently.

Beloved voice actor Charles Martinet, who voiced the iconic Mario in the Nintendo series as well as other characters, will retire from voice acting.

Nintendo shared a post that discussed how Martinet will be stepping back from voice acting for any new Mario games.

"It has been an honor working with Charles to help bring Mario back to life for so many years and we want to thank and celebrate him."

Celebrations and thanks for Martinet's accomplishments in voicing Mario came flooding in after Nintendo's announcement.

And then, of course, fans of the game began to talk about who might take over the role.

Chris Pratt, who voiced the part in the Mario movie recently, was an obvious choice.

Most folks weren't pleased by the potential for a Pratt Mario, however.

Some thought it would be pretty interesting.

They brought up other roles Pratt has held.

But basically, Pratt or not, whoever will come after Martinet has some big shoes (and a tiny car) to fill.

Martinet will continue on at Nintendo in the role of 'Mario Ambassador.'
