TikToker Shocked To Discover Neighborhood HOA Hasn't Legally Existed For Over A Decade

After receiving a letter from her neighborhood's supposed HOA president announcing she'd be stepping down after 25 years, TikToker @notalisonthanks discovered that the HOA hasn't actually existed since 2009.

The homeowner world is packed with HOA (homeowners association) horror stories, especially fixated on petty things like exact trash can placement and license plate uniformity, or more personal preferences like the color of the exterior of someone's home.

But just imagine being haunted by an HOA that doesn't even exist.

That was the exact situation Alison (@notalisonthanks on TikTok) found herself in after she received a letter about the continuation of the HOA program she wasn't even aware that her neighborhood was represented by.

The letter was taped to her mailbox and was from a woman named Claire who claimed that she had been the HOA president for their neighborhood for the past 25 years. As she was 96 years old, she was interested in stepping down and passing the torch so that their HOA would not have to be discontinued.

Alison was at first interested in this because she felt that her husband would be a great candidate for the president role, but when she reached out to him about it, he insisted that their neighborhood did not have an HOA. He said that he had not paid an HOA fee since they moved in and was "not about to start now."

Alison then talked to a mom friend who lived in the community, who informed her that many people in the community had been paying the annual HOA fee for literally no services rendered.

In the neighborhood's Facebook group, the situation became even juicier when a man came forward to state that he had spoken to his lawyer who confirmed that there was no HOA and implored members of the community to stop responding to invitations and solicitations for money for the non-existent HOA.

Because the next neighborhood town hall meeting was coming up on March 23, right in Claire's driveway, the TikToker was interested to see how the situation would be dealt with there.

The TikToker then followed up in a separate video about the activity in the Facebook group.

Two members from the community were arguing about the importance of having and supporting an HOA so that the community could be maintained and be kept beautiful. Since there was no HOA in place the argument was a moot point, as all services rendered in the community would have to come out of community members' pockets.

Alison then took matters into her own hands by emailing Claire directly, voicing her interest in learning more about the HOA and potentially becoming the president.

The two women decided on a time to meet and discuss, but because Alison ended up being sick at the time of the meeting, she had to reschedule.

No matter the updates, some TikTokers were definitely in this for the tea.

This situation was certainly a big serving of tea, and it seems that since the two women haven't met yet, and since there's still that neighborhood driveway town meeting coming up, there will likely be some updates.

Hopefully, something has been done with the neighborhood's money in the last 25 years, and Alison isn't on the brink of uncovering a fraud case.
