There are so many ways to ruin a vacation, but there's nothing like a vacation fail brought on by a large troop of monkeys.
TikToker Kane Smith (@kane_smith97) was enjoying a quiet and restful afternoon in a pool at a secluded resort that was off the beaten path in Thailand—but after an unexpected incident, he suspected the resort was quiet for a reason.
While reclining in the pool, Smith began to film a fun video when his face turned to a shocked expression. He flipped the camera to reveal a large monkey that had just descended from a nearby tree as it slowly paced across the well-manicured lawn.
Smith lowered his gaze and slowly moved to the far side of the pool. The monkey, in the meantime, scaled the pool wall where he'd been approaching and began to drink from the pool.
To Smith's horror, more and more monkeys started to appear. Some stayed in the trees while others scaled a nearby wall. They began to line up around the first monkey, decorating the pool wall.
But when an especially big monkey—probably the leader of the troop—appeared, Smith knew it was time to leave. The monkey quickly walked down the edge of the pool toward Smith until he was just feet away from him, staring at him.
As Smith started to get out of the pool, several monkey charged at him and chased him down the stairs. Smith ran through the yard, hurrying to the nearest resort building and running down another set of stairs.
The video ended before Smith could get inside the building, and it was unclear from the video if he was okay.

The next day, after calming down, Smith posted an update video.
He had gone into the first door that he could find that was unlocked and waited there until the monkeys left the area.
He had no doubts why the resort was so minimally populated, since it seemed the monkeys were incredibly comfortable and settled into the area.
Who would want to come back after an encounter like that?
@kane_smith97 Replying to @Charmane Isabella IM ALIVE😍 🎉 Guys thank you so much for blowing this up like you have! I never expected this. I’ll try answer as many questions asap! Just thought I’d upload this brief video as a little update as everyone thought I was dead🤣🤣#thailand #solotravel
It's wonderful to see animals in their element, to watch them, and to take pictures. It's awe-inspiring, honestly.
But encountering them in the real world, especially in such a vulnerable position as just wearing a swimsuit in a pool alone, is a completely different experience and would ruin anyone's vacation.
