Like most parents around the globe, Xep Campbell often has to deal with her daughter leaving her laundry laying on the floor.

One day, Campbell decided to draw her daughter's attention to a certain discarded sock with a specially made plaque.

Unfortunately, Campell's little prank only inspired her daughter to take things even further. Now, the pair are locked in an epic tit-for-tat battle surrounding the sock.

Campbell shared the whole story in a viral Facebook post.

Campbell wrote:

"On the evening of Thanksgiving when I went to bed I noticed one of Kestrel's socks on the bathroom floor," Campbell wrote. "I decided not to toss it in the hamper but instead see how long it would stay there, sort of a sociological experiment."
"Today, a week later, it remained, so I decided it must be intentional and deserved recognition as such. I made this little label hoping it would motivate her to pick it up. Oh no."

The plaque read:

"The Forgotten Sock, Mixed Media, Nov 25, 2020. On loan from the collection of the artist."

After Campbell's daughter supplied the sock with a pedastal, an audience of barnyard animals, supplied by the mother, arrived to admire the piece.

Before long, other art pieces mysteriously appeared to compliment the scene.

It's unclear whether the mother or daughter will back down first, but the scene is becoming more and more elaborate.

Internet users loved the good-natured prank battle between the Campbells.

It's rare that so much magic can come from one dirty sock!

When asked why she took this strange approach to confronting her daughter's discarded sock, Campbell told Upworthy:

"I always try to take the creative route whenever possible. There is a lot of beige in the world that needs to be countered. There are also endless possibilities to be creative with even the most mundane aspects of life. I tend to go for the weird option when it's there."
