A mother's TikTok video in which she claimed her 10-month-old "bought" Tesla's "full self-driving package" through its app has gone viral. It also elicited concerns about a lack of certain security features on the app.
The TikToker, @stayfitstaylit, discovered her son's compulsive purchase of the $10,000 Tesla upgrade after it appeared on her bank statement.
This was unfortunate, given the company's policy is "NON-refundable 48 hours after the purchase."
The TikTok video, which you can see below, racked up over 217K likes.
@stayfitstaylit Well our son decided we needed the self driving package we debated on before 🥲😬💀 #tesla #teslaworld #ohno #foryou #fyp
The mother showed Tesla's confirmation page of her purchase on her laptop and cut to the adorable photo of the mischievous little culprit.
"When your 10-month-old purchases the full self-driving package through the Tesla app," she wrote in the video, adding, "& you didn't know until after you checked the bank statements."
The video then showed her new white, self-driving vehicle exiting from her garage, followed by a screenshot of the charges totaling $10,837.50 after tax.
She then wondered why the app lacked efficient security features against probing baby fingers.
"Why isn't there a password of security measure before you could make this purchase?"
People were highly amused.

Some TikTok users believed we shouldn't underestimate the baby's intuition.

Others were skeptical the child was responsible for the costly blunder.

In response to a commenter who said banks usually contact cardholders about suspicious activity—especially with a transaction costing over 10K dollars— the mother explained her bank card was hooked up to her Tesla account, a process that occurs for new owners of Tesla vehicles.
@stayfitstaylit Reply to @g3mma1654 My bank will ask if it was in a whole different state or overseas or pin for a debit card was wrong
She said:
"It's not a lie, people keep saying it's a lie and that the bank would notify me but our bank is hooked up to our Tesla app so it was an upgrade for the car."
Another user suggested this would not have happened if she kept a closer eye on her baby.
Not that she owed an explanation, but she did say in another response video her little boy was with her the whole time sitting at the dinner table while she was getting dinner ready.
"But thanks for your input, there," she concluded.
