This week, President Joe Biden ended America's longest war as the last of U.S. troops were withdrawn from Afghanistan, but the occasion was marred by chaos and tragedy as the Afghan government collapsed faster than anticipated, allowing the fundamentalist Taliban regime to retake the region.
Republicans have slammed the withdrawal as tantamount to treason, citing the number of American civilians remaining in Afghanistan as the White House continues to formulate evacuation plans for them.
Some Republican elected officials, like far-right Congresswoman and prominent conspiracy theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, have called for impeachment.
Greene filed articles of impeachment late last month and has seen multiple Republican House members agree to cosponsor the legislation, which almost certainly won't be brought to the floor.
Thank you to @Miller_Congress @DrPaulGosar @DHarshbargerTN1 @RepJeffDuncan and @RepBobGood for cosponsoring my impeachment resolution against Joe Biden!

He and his administration failed our military and left thousands of Americans behind in Afghanistan.

Sleepy Joe must go!https://twitter.com/mtgreenee/status/1433074440334630913 …— Marjorie Taylor Greene 🇺🇸 (@Marjorie Taylor Greene 🇺🇸) 1630528782
As Americans across the country know all too well from witnessing two impeachments in as many years, the Senate is responsible for deciding whether or not to convict an impeached President.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky dashed Republicans' hopes to see Biden impeached.
Watch below.
McConnell, in Kentucky, pours cold water on GOP calls for Biden's ouster: "The president's not going to be removed from office with a Democratic House... There isn't going to be an impeachment."pic.twitter.com/KjKtpUUVVM— Andrew Solender (@Andrew Solender) 1630516001
At an event in Kentucky on Wednesday, McConnell said:
"Well, look, the President is not going to be removed from office. There's a Democratic House, a narrowly Democratic Senate. That's not going to happen. ... There isn't going to be an impeachment."
Conservatives were livid at McConnell's comments.
Coming from the guy who threw Trump under the bus after the second impeachment hoax? lol.

I guess he thinks that encouraging people to “peacefully and patriotically” make their voices heard is more impeachable than literally arming the Taliban and leaving Americans behind.https://twitter.com/thehill/status/1433130878172028928 …— Jenna Ellis (@Jenna Ellis) 1630520906
McConnell is part of the elite. That's the master he serves.https://twitter.com/thehill/status/1433130878172028928 …— Mom Lady (@Mom Lady) 1630522225
He's clearly throwing the 2022 election to protect the guy he helped install as president. Why vote @GOP?https://twitter.com/thehill/status/1433130878172028928 …— Boston Bobblehead (@Boston Bobblehead) 1630525331
Do you get it now? They all play for the same team. Donald Trump was not on the team rather he was on our team & that wasn't good for the America last one world grifters cabal.https://twitter.com/thehill/status/1433130878172028928 …— Cozy_boy_Grinch🌲 (@Cozy_boy_Grinch🌲) 1630528907
Never underestimate the ability of Mitch McConnell to identify where the base is on a key issue of our day, and stand in the exact opposite corner.https://twitter.com/lindsaywise/status/1433108460657381380 …— Rachel Semmel (@Rachel Semmel) 1630515558
But with Democrats holding a narrow majority in both houses, impeachment is a nonstarter.
People were surprised McConnell got backlash for pointing this out.
I know people forget this a lot, but it should be noted that Mitch McConnell is the ‘minority’ leader in the Senate. And Rs do not control the House. So, yeah, there isn’t going to be an impeachment.https://twitter.com/lindsaywise/status/1433108460657381380 …— Jason Karsh (@Jason Karsh) 1630515601

Well, yeah. We don't have a majority in the House so he's not getting impeached.

That's not some squish betrayal by McConnell. That's just a fact.

I don't get why people are upset at him for pointing out an obvious truth. It's not his fault we don't have the House. We don't.https://twitter.com/lindsaywise/status/1433108460657381380 …— Kurt Schlichter (@Kurt Schlichter) 1630523229
Nevertheless, the MAGA crowd remains disappointed.
