Melania Trump's Hotel In Cairo Cost Almost $100,000—And That's Not Even The Worst Part

During her recent trip to Africa, first lady Melania Trump stopped to visit Cairo in Egypt.

While there, she accrued a bill of $95,050 at the InterContinental Semiramis hotel, which will be covered by taxpayer dollars.

Considering the hotel's rooms are typically $119 a night and get not more expensive than $699 a night for the Presidential suite, many are incredibly confused as to how the first lady managed to spend so much money at the hotel...especially considering she didn't stay there overnight!

Melania Trump only stopped in Cairo for about six hours according to her spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham.

Though she may have stopped at the hotel for a brief period of time, she didn't end up sleeping there. The huge bill at the InterContinental Semiramis was revealed by official federal spending records.

The amount for only 6 hours left many online bewildered and angry at where their tax money is going.

Melania Trump spent so much money...and they didn't even stay the night!

Imagine if Michelle Obama was caught spending taxpayer money this way.

This isn't the only controversy the First Lady incited during her trip to Africa.

While touring a park in Nairobi, Trump wore a pith helmet, a fashion accessory that has a long and complicated history relating to colonialism in that country. When asked about her choice to wear that hat, Trump told reporters they should "focus on what I do, not what I wear."

Those are pretty big words from someone who just spent nearly $100k for six hours in a hotel.

Trump's trip to Africa, where she visited many of the same countries her husband Donald Trump referred to as "s**thole countries," will most likely be remembered not for any diplomatic gains, but for these needless and clumsy controversies.
