Former The View co-host Meghan McCain was called out after sharing her disdain for President Joe Biden pardoning his "nepo baby" son Hunter—but her argument was swiftly called out for its hypocrisy given that her father is late Arizona Republican Senator John McCain.
Hunter Biden received a "full and unconditional” pardon from his father that covers federal gun and tax charges. Hunter Biden had been scheduled to be sentenced for his federal gun conviction on December 12 and for his tax case just four days later.
The pardon applies to all “offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014, through December 1, 2024, including but not limited to all offenses charged or prosecuted.”
The GOP—which used Hunter Biden's offenses in a failed attempt to impeach his father—has been up in arms since then, accusing Biden of abusing his pardon power.
And McCain is the latest to jump into the ring, pointing to Biden's previous statement in reference to his son's charges that "no one is above the law" to make the following pointed remark:
"No one is above the law except the Presidents nepo baby is a helluva parting message for democrats…"
You can see her post below.
That's a funny statement coming from someone born into wealth and privilege as the eldest daughter of McCain and his second wife, Cindy Lou McCain (née Hensley), the daughter of a wealthy beer distributor.
McCain was criticized for her hypocrisy.
Many Republicans have criticized Biden for pardoning his son—though the hypocrisy is rich coming from people like Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was criticized after demanding a "blanket pardon" from President-elect Donald Trump to her and her fellow Republicans.
Greene was reportedly among at least five lawmakers who requested pardons from Trump before he left office in 2021. The request was linked to their involvement in Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, which he falsely claimed to have won despite losing by several million votes.
