PHOTOS: Mark Hamill Tributes Carrie Fisher Through a Series of Photos

Now that The Last Jedi finally bulldozed its way into theaters this holiday season to great fanfare and glowing reviews, Mark Hamill celebrated the film's success and honored the late Carrie Fisher on the occasion of her one-year anniversary since her death.

Hamill, who has been revered for his iconic portrayal of Luke Skywalker, tweeted, "No one's ever really gone...," accompanied by the hashtags, #AlwaysWithUs and #CarrieOnForever. A series of pictures of the two together through different stages of the film's franchise followed the tweet, along with a portrait of the fearless luminary flipping the bird while holding her beloved dog, Bruno.

The tweet references a line from The Last Jedi in which Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia part ways. Luke imparts to his sister, “No one’s ever really gone.” Let the tears flow.

Carrie Fisher met her costar in 1977 to film Star Wars. Although the cast didn't click right away, the actors became very close over time after the commercial success of the movie.

She made an immediate impression on director George Lucas, who said:

She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colorful personality that everyone loved. In Star Wars she was our great and powerful princess—feisty, wise and full of hope in a role that was more difficult than most people might think.

Fisher suffered a medical emergency during a flight from London to Los Angeles on December 23, 2016. Upon landing, Fisher was rushed to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where she was placed on a ventillator. She died of cardiac arrest four days later, at age 60, in the intensive care unit.

After fans collected themselves from Hamill's poignant tribute, they responded with loving tweets of their own.

As the credits rolled at the end of The Last Jedi, the studio paid tribute. If there weren't dry eyes by then, this brought on the waterworks.

Fisher was everybody's princess.

She will be remembered chiefly for being an outspoken force in the industry and for her sardonic wit and brashness. She mentioned in her 2008 book, Wishful Drinking, that she wanted her obituary to read, "I want it reported that I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra."

She never received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but fans made her one anyway by memorializing her with the words, "Carrie Fisher may the force be with you always."
