Lizzo Pledges $1 Million To Planned Parenthood In Powerful Video Message After Roe Decision

Singer Lizzo has drawn applause all over the internet for her powerful social media statements about the Supreme Court's overturn of Roe v. Wade in which she pledged a seven-figure donation to Planned Parenthood and the National Network of Abortion Funds.

In the video, Lizzo announced she will be personally donating $500,000 from her current tour proceeds and tour promoter Live Nation will be matching her donation for a $1 million total pledge to the reproductive healthcare organizations.

Lizzo announced the move in a TikTok video and an Instagram post, see below, in which she included a rallying cry for the fight for reproductive freedom and access to healthcare.

Along with a photo of a protest poster that repurposed the lyrics to her hit song "About Damn Time," Lizzo wrote:

"The most important thing is action & loud voices. @plannedparenthood @abortionfunds & organizations like them— will need funding to continue offering services to people who are most harmed by this ban"

"Black women & women of color have historically had disproportionately less access to family planning resources— this is a great loss but not a new one."

Lizzo then added a call to action to support Planned Parenthood's grass-roots Bans Off My Body campaign, launched in 2019 to fight back against the increasingly draconian abortion bans that have swept the country in recent years and culminated in last week's overturn of Roe v. Wade.

Lizzo reiterated this call in her TikTok video, underlining the urgent need for support for organizations like Planned Parenthood and the National Network of Abortion Funds, which provides monetary aid to people seeking reproductive healthcare.

Of her $1 million donation, Lizzo told her followers:

"This is just the beginning of action I hope to take..."
