Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, isn't about to turn the other cheek when it comes to sticking by her father.

On Sunday, actor Christian Bale didn't hold back his feelings about Dick Cheney as he accepted the Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Bale won for his portrayal of the divisive politician in the film Vice.

In his acceptance speech, the actor joked that he got the part because of his resemblance to Cheney, saying:

"He [director Adam McKay] said, 'I have to find somebody that can be absolutely charisma free and reviled by everybody, so we wanted Christian Bale.'"

Earlier, Bale shared a warning his wife gave him about speeches, saying "less is more".

He told the audience:

"She knows the dumb crap that can come out of my mouth at times. I can sink and ruin a perfectly good movie and so-so career in one speech. So thank you for that advice, my love."

Clearly, though, he didn't listen.

Bale roasted Dick Cheney and took down Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in one fell swoop.

"For all the competition, I will be cornering the market on charisma-free assholes. What do you think, Mitch McConnell next? That could be good, couldn't it? Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration."

You can watch Bale's speech below.

The audience seemed entertained, if slightly nervous, about where this was going. Liz Cheney, however, was not the least bit amused.

A short time after Bale's speech, she tweeted this:

Some felt that if it fits...

Bale might not be a saint but...

And how does Satan feel about this comparison?

There must be some middle ground?

Now that's how a civilized society works out its differences: compromise.
