Lil Nas X's recent song "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" has reached the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The rap artist celebrated the achievement on Twitter.

The song and music video focused on Lil Nas X grappling with his identity as a gay man and ultimately commented on the rhetoric from conservatives LGBTQ+ people will go to Hell. After dropping the music video for "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" as well as his shoe line to go with it, he received criticism and backlash from conservatives.

After all the conservative outrage, Lil Nas X got the last laugh as his song reached the number one spot on Billboard Hot 100 on April 5.

Though he jokes a great deal about the conservatives who shared their thoughts on the video, it was an important moment for him, which he explained in an emotional tweet.

Lil Nas X also tweeted a video he recorded in June 2020 to congratulate his future self.

In the video he said:

"I wanna say I'm proud of you!"
"You deserve all the good sh*t that's happening to you right now."

Thought he continues to joke, he ended his twitter thread on a more serious note.
