So there's yet another new press secretary at the White House, a Trump Administration post that has hosted some of the right's biggest and brightest lunatics.
But none of them hold a candle to Katie Zacharia, who could barely get out a sentence at her first briefing and claims to be a "lawyer" despite, well, not being. Zacharia has taken her fib so far that she claimed to the press she took the bar in China—which is not a thing.
But this isn't the first time she's told this fib. Someone created a supercut of all the times Zacharia has claimed to be a lawyer, despite having never passed the bar, and now she's the internet's new meme.
Zacharia's lie has generated quite a bit of discourse, despite lies being pretty clear-cut: They are not true.
Ah, but! This is the Trump Administration, where all lies can be finessed into simply different opinions on semantics.
That's what they've tried to do with Zacharia, whom the Wall Street Journal reports did take the California bar but failed and has made no prior attempts since. A White House official confirmed this, but added that Zacharia could technically be considered a "lawyer" but not an "attorney" since she did go to law school.
That is not how anything works, however. And as for the President himself, he seems confused about it too, referring to Zacharia as an "attorney" in a Truth Social post.
Lawyers themselves say that "lawyer" means you passed the bar and are licensed to practice law. Media outlets have found no evidence that Zacharia has done so.
But she has repeatedly claimed that she practiced law in China, which "you wouldn't know my girlfriend, she lives in Canada" connotations aside, is not legal in China. Though experts have said it's possible that Zacharia could have consulted on cross-border issues in the country.
Regardless, none of this has stopped Zacharia from presenting herself as a licensed lawyer since graduating Pepperdine's Caruso School of Law in 2011.
As the supercut shows, Zacharia has repeatedly referred to herself as a "lawyer," a "corporate lawyer," claimed she "practiced corporate law" and did not correct people who called her an "attorney."
Naturally, this has made her something of an internet laughingstock, and the drags have been constant.
Don't fault Zacharia, though—she did her due diligence! Or so she thinks.
In interviews, she claims she consulted Pepperdine Law and was assured that she can call herself a lawyer, but not any of the other terms that denote passing the bar and having a license. Which is also not how it works, according to lawyers!
She told Real America's Voice:
"[I] consulted for a very long time many people in the field, is it okay and acceptable if I label myself lawyer, not attorney at law, not Katie Zacharia esquire, but lawyer, and provide legal analysis, not legal advice... absolutely, across the board.”
Pepperdine Law, tellingly, has not confirmed this, and as many have pointed out, it's irrelevant anyway.
Because aside from the supercut clips showing her being referred to as an "attorney" without correction, Zacharia has also repeatedly claimed she "practiced law" and has listed herself as "general counsel" on sites like LinkedIn.
That starts wading into illegal territory. Perhaps Zacharia will be the next to learn the hard way that when you sign up to be part of Trump's human shield of good Christian blond women, you usually end up going down.
