Karen Pence Tried to Claim Mike Pence Didn't Know Mayo Clinic Required Masks, and People Are Dragging Her Hard

Karen Pence Tried to Claim Mike Pence Didn't Know Mayo Clinic Required Masks, and People Are Dragging Her Hard

Vice President Mike Pence drew public ridicule after refusing to wear a mask during a recent visit to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

At first, Pence claimed he chose not to wear a mask—a direct violation of Mayo's policies and standard policy for hospitals across the country—because he wanted to look people in the eyes.

But in an appearance on Fox & Friends, Second Lady Karen Pence sang a different tune. Co-host Ainsley Earhardt asked Pence to explain her husband's choice.

Karen Pence replied:

"That's a great question. I'm glad that you asked me."
"First of all, it was a great visit to Mayo. They're doing amazing research with blood from recovering [pandemic] patients."
"And as our medical experts have told us, wearing a mask prevents you from spreading the disease and knowing that he doesn't have [the virus], he didn't wear one."

The Second Lady then added:

"It was actually after he left Mayo Clinic that he found out that they had a policy of asking everyone to wear a mask."

You can see the exchange here.

Despite appearing in a split screen video clearly showing even the Vice President's Secret Service detail wearing black masks in the background of footage of her husband at Mayo Clinic, Pence expected people to believe he husband was only told of the policy after leaving.

In her scenario, all members of the media and the United States Secret Service kept the Mayo Clinic's pandemic policy a secret from her husband. And when asked, her husband claimed ho chose it was so he could look people in the eye instead of saying he had not been informed of the policy.

It took no time at all for people to poke holes in Karen Pence's claim.

As well as question some of her other statements.

Many pointed out the post that the Mayo Clinic tweeted then deleted.

Much of the criticism revolved around the Pence's perpetual profession of their Christian faith and that faith's stance on lying.

Karen Pence's appearance on Fox & Friends likely did more harm than good.

Either the Second Lady lied or her husband is incompetent.

Neither is a good look.

People asked how a competent leader could not know something every person around him was aware of.

How long the Pence's cling to this latest excuse remains to be seen.
