During a recent hearing in the House of Representatives, Chris Miller, Donald Trump's former acting Defense Secretary, and Jeffrey Rosen, the former acting Attorney General, testified to defend their actions following the January 6 insurrection.
During the hearing, Republican Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio used his time to falsely accuse Democrats of attempting to overthrow the 2016 election of Donald Trump.
In one line of questioning, Jordan seemed to imply Trump's continued denial of the 2020 election results was acceptable because Hillary Clinton (who conceded the day of the election) had supposedly done the same thing.
Jordan stood by his accusation, sharing it on social media.

Twitter, however, noticed a clear difference between Democrat concerns over election security and a months-long denial of proven reality.
Despite their dissatisfaction with Russian election interference, no Democrats denied Trump won the electoral college vote in 2016—despite his loss of the popular vote.
Those were the most ridiculous statements I’ve ever heard. Do you really think what you are asking has anything to do with the capital riots? Or are you that ignorant?— Leslie Phelps (@Leslie Phelps) 1620834718
@Jim_Jordan It’s amazing you see a double standard. What Clinton said to media a few months ago didn’t start an insurrection. Good grief, Trump is still trying to be President from his swamp.— Holly Adamson (@Holly Adamson) 1620834449
Why is @Jim_Jordan asking about objecting to the insurrection by arguing the @DNC objected to the vote? No one stopped the objections. This is about the attempt to overthrow the government by trying to stop the legal process. #CapitolRiots #Biden— that one chick (@that one chick) 1620834542
The internet came together to dunk on Jordan's nonsensical line of questioning.
There is no revisionist history, Hillary Clinton conceded to Donald Trump she didn’t incite an insurrection! You lie and don’t care that capitol police officers died and many were severely injured, up to 150 officers injured but you’re ok with that! Disgraceful!— Twinmom (@Twinmom) 1620836756
@Jim_Jordan your rant this morning was despicable. It had NOTHING to do with Jan 6th 2020! You're always EVASIVE, you were talking about Jan 6th 2016! You're nothing but a mouth peice for the worst, corrupt senior citizen liar-in-chief Trump. @SpeakerPelosi @VP @RepSwalwell— Papa Bear (@Papa Bear) 1620834434
It seems no matter what Trump does, Republicans will never find his behavior worse than Hillary Clinton.
Why is Jim Jordan re-litigating 2016 and not trying to get answers for what happened on Jan 6th? Could it be because he doesn't want to implicate himself in the insurrection?— GOP is no more (@GOP is no more) 1620834218
@Jim_Jordan just listened to you at the hearing. Yes Hillary was disgruntled. The rest of us moved on and accepted the results of the election. This time it’s different. Some Republicans continued the lie that the election was stolen. This is irresponsible and unconstitutional.— Ann Oliver (@Ann Oliver) 1620834066
Defenders of molesters like @Jim_Jordan love to equate objections to the ‘16 election (amidst active, unprecedented interference from hostile foreign interference & cyberattacks in an American election) w/ the ‘20 election, where Trump lost 86+ lawsuits, including SCOTUS.— Andrew Rudick (@Andrew Rudick) 1620834061
As Jim Jordan lashes out at 2016 Democrats for refusing to accept election results, he and his Republican colleagues just voted Liz Cheney out of her leadership position because she accepted Joe Biden's win in 2020.
@Jim_Jordan Comparing Clinton's 2016 election to Biden's 2020 election is apples to oranges. Russia helped Trump! Russia did not help Biden. That is what Hillary meant. How can you look in the mirror and sleep at night? You are a disgrace!— Kay Pearce (@Kay Pearce) 1620833924
There is no comparison between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton's behavior.
@Jim_Jordan
1 - Clinton conceded at midnight
2 - Trump colluded, and Barr covered it up. He is also conflating. Hillary Clinton did not say the election was conducted unfairly at the state level or that votes were stolen. She was saying that the Russian meddling swung enough votes to "steal" the election for Trump. Two very different things.— Jeff Leon (@Jeff Leon) 1620834021
Does Jordan actually believe what he's saying about Donald Trump's behavior being essentially the same as Democrat behavior?
Most likely not.
But his lies will likely give Republicans another talking point to distract the media from the important issues of the day.
