JoJo Siwa Sparks Backlash With New 'Gay Pop' Tattoo—And Her Fans Have Jokes

The 'Karma' singer raised eyebrows and sparked jokes with a new forearm tattoo in capital letters that reads, 'CEO OF GAY POP', inked by tattoo artist Blood Daisy.

The former child reality star JoJo Siwa is all grown up and continues to be a polarizing figure in the entertainment industry with her eye-raising antics and bonkers statements on social media.

Her latest stunt was getting a tattoo of the words, "CEO OF GAY POP," a reference to a statement she made expressing a desire to "start a new genre of music" she would call "gay pop."

Siwa's audacious ambition to pioneer the queer music genre, which already exists, btw, came in April when she debuted her first official single as an adult artist, called "Karma," after years of being in the spotlight from her tweens on shows like Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition and various programs on Nickelodeon.

She went on to cite Lady Gaga's "Applause" and Miley Cyrus's "Can't Be Tamed" as examples of the genre and further described it as:

“That world of music, where it’s not necessarily pop–it’s not giving you Katy Perry ‘California Girls’ pop, it’s giving you Lady Gaga ‘Judas.'"

Siwa received backlash for her statements, with one commenter humbling her with a list of established artists in gay pop, such as Elton John, Wham!, and Queen.

When asked if she would walk back her previous comments on inventing the genre, she clarified:

"I am not the inventor of gay pop, for sure not. ... I might not be the president, but I might be the CEO, or the CMO."

But it seems the 21-year-old has permanently leaned into the title of CEO despite previously admitting she was not the progenitor of gay pop.

Here is Pink News's TikTok clip of Siwa getting inked with the identifying moniker.

Siwa is setting her sights on the future with a desire to compete in next year's Eurovision Song Contest to represent her heritage country of Poland.

The international competition launched the career of the original pioneers of gay pop, ABBA, after becoming the first Swedish group to win with their hit song "Waterloo" in 1974.
