Musician John Legend has emerged as one of the most visible critics of President Donald Trump in the entertainment industry. Shortly before the 2020 election, Legend performed at a rally for Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and he remains a vocal dissenter against Trump's tweets and daily falsehoods.
Legend's latest rebuttal came in response to the President's continued refusal to accept defeat from President-elect Joe Biden.
Breaking with the centuries-long tradition of defeated Presidents gracefully conceding and working with their successors to facilitate a transition, Trump and his team have launched numerous lawsuits hinging on false claims of voter fraud in multiple states.
Meanwhile, the President continues to share false information designed to undermine faith in the United States' democratic process among his supporters.
Retweeting a lie that election observers were never allowed into ballot counting facilities, Trump boasted that he won 73 million "legal" votes.
NOW 73,000,000 LEGAL VOTES! https://t.co/VSNfdzoFkK
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 12, 2020
In the days since Biden was declared the winner of the election, the President and his sphere have frequently deployed the term "legal votes," implying the existence of millions of illegal votes. Judging from the President's tweet, any vote for Trump is considered a "legal" vote.
Legend mocked Trump's all-caps declaration by telling him to look up the number of votes for Biden.
Hahahahahahahahaha. Now do Biden https://t.co/r8erksYmw9

Fact check: Trump is currently at 72.4M so he can't even round up to 73M. He is and always has been a lying liar. And Biden is at 77.7M. Biden handily won both the popular vote and the electoral college. Trump = Impeached one-term president = lying loser

Legend pointed out that, as was the case in 2016, Trump lost the popular vote in the 2020 election, with Biden earning 77.7 million votes—around five million more votes than Trump.
People largely agreed with Legend's comeback.
I love when people come in with the facts 😆 #TrumpConcede https://t.co/dkB8FKpCQM

Legend wasn't the only one to call out Trump for his latest Twitter boast.
This is like the Vikings coach bragging about scoring 28 points when they lost 35-28. You still took an L. https://t.co/tNFgk9m7Y3

No, actually it's still closer to 72 million.
And Biden has over 77 million. https://t.co/3Htc32Aq59

In order to grift money from gullible supporters, Trump is telling 45% of the country that being a Democrat is illegal. https://t.co/3r7sX41xlY
