Jessica Simpson Has Hilarious Reaction After Fan Confuses Her For Britney Spears

Simpson shared on Instagram how she was in the 'parking lot at the mall' when a fan came up to her seeking an autograph...from Spears.

What a mix-up! A fan recently approached Jessica Simpson, who was with her daughter Maxwell Drew, in a parking lot for an autograph. The catch? The fan actually wanted Britney Spears' autograph, and had mixed up the two singers.

On Instagram, Simpson posted a picture of her and Maxwell looking shocked after the incident.

She said in the post:

"The face when someone in the parking lot at the mall asks you for your autograph, but expects you to sign it Britney Spears 😜"

Simpson, whose music career overlapped Spears' and who also sports long blonde hair, might be confused for Spears if you squint just right, but certainly not up close. The two starlets have a lot in common, which possibly fueled the fan's confusion. Same generation of singers, similar rises to fame, Southern roots, and time on The Mickey Mouse Club in their childhoods.

Simpson commented in a 2021 interview that she admired Spears.

“I admire her ambition, strength, and the capability to live unapologetically and authentically.”

The resemblance is there—enough for Spears to post last year, asking, "Why do I look EXACTLY like Jessica Simpson???"

Reactions to Simpson's post were all over the place.

Some couldn't figure out how anyone could confuse the two singers.

Some people said Simpson should take the comparison as a compliment.

Others, however, took issue with what they saw as negativity in Simpson's caption.

They were quickly rebuffed by people who just wanted some kindness in the comments.

Someone brought up another singer to whom Simpson and Spears were often compared: Christina Aguilera.

Folks still wanted to know: did she actually sign the autograph?

Simpson's autobiography, Open Book, came out in 2020. Spears' own memoir comes out October 24th.
