Jennifer Lopez Expertly Handles Interviewer's Rude Comment About Her Age In Viral Video

The actor is being praised for her response after an interviewer at a screening in L.A. of her new film Unstoppable joked that she's "getting up there."

At 55, actor and music star Jennifer Lopez demonstrated she's unstoppable, which is coincidentally the title of her new biographical sports film.

When Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis joked about Lopez "getting up there" in age during a recent Q&A, her response was surprisingly positive.

Social etiquette discourages most people from inquiring about age—particularly women in Hollywood, thanks to unattainable beauty standards.

It has long been viewed as sexist, especially when the stigma of aging doesn't seem to apply to men in the same industry.

Lopez, however, gracefully handled the interviewer mentioning her age.

A video obtained by TMZ showed Davis praising J. Lo's career accomplishments so far and said, “Listen, I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since Selena," referring to the actor's leading role as the late Tejano music star, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez in the 1997 musical biopic.

He mentioned Lopez would be closer to 60 (she'll be 58) by the time Selena officially marks its 30th anniversary in 2027.

One off-camera audience member could be heard gasping, "Did he just say that?" while another commented, "rude."

J. Lo said, "Wow," and let Davis finish his remarks, before saying, “It’s funny you think that I’m getting up there."

When Davis interjected, clarifying his age comment was a "joke," she turned it into a moment of gratitude for the fans who've supported her throughout her career.

"I want to say thank you, you guys. Because we’ve been doing this a long time together,” she told the applauding audience.

The Latin entertainer, who's sold over 80 million records, continued:

“Today, I was singing some new songs and I went back and sang "If You Had My Love," which is my first song, 1999."
"It’s that thing of, like, what a journey this has been.”

Lopez added that “the best is yet to come.”

“I honestly feel that my creativity and who I am as an artist — like you said, I also feel that [‘Unstoppable’], for me, was another kind of level for me of going deeper into who I am as a person, as an artist.”

In Unstoppable, Lopez plays the mother of Anthony Robles, a wrestler who was born with one leg and went on to win the 2011 NCAA individual wrestling national championship in the 125-pound weight class.

Unstoppable debuts on Amazon Prime on January 16, 2025.
